CHAPTER SEVEN ; TRIAL
| CHAPTER 7 - WEEK 7 Wakey wakey, naughty murder children. It's a lovely Saturday, after all. Breakfast is served piping hot at its usual time and all of the evidence has been removed from the scenes of yesterday. No matter how you choose to spent your morning though, the clock will begin to chime the moment both hands reach the large, ornate twelve. Before your eyes materializes a door...but not just any door. Unlike the door leading to the festival, this door sits primly and properly right in front of the foyer. Whether you exit the castle on your own or you feel a friendly, invisible push, you begin to walk under an arc of wisterias. Behind you, the clock continues to chime with every step you take. By the time the time the clock strikes twelve, you've entered a beautiful garden. In front of you is a long table, 19 seats on each side. Around the garden are several glass cases containing evidence collected yesterday. As noon intensifies on the sun-shaped clock, you'll find Dragon at the head of the table, a glass-covered rose near her right hand. Tick tock, Narrators. You have nine hours to deliberate. The garden is strangely silent and there are no snacks today...it seems as though you'll be left to your own devices. Welcome to your trial post! Please see here for the OOC summary of events from yesterday's investigation. In addition, please be sure to vote! Please see the voting page on how to vote, as we will have two special things to vote for. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST or sooner if the game ICly elects so. If you have any questions, please ask on our Discord server or ping us on plurk. Please direct pings for the NPC to Dana (

TALK TO THE HOST
When someone approaches, she cants her head to the side and gives them her attention instead. ]
How may I help?

Can you transfer your promise with her to me instead and answer the question now, or are we just screwed in that department?

So first things first! Looking at her face, then her neck at those wounds. Are they more shallow or deep?]

EVIDENCE EXAMINATION
SUMMARY (?)
There, we figured out some of the deaths. I'm guessing this isn't even important anymore, so now we can move onto the bigger stuff.

Or maybe that's just the light that catches in his hair and off his skin subtly, every so often whenever he shifts. ]
Perhaps Rebecca was a change in plans after their attempt on my own person failed.
We needed gold ink to be spilled, after all.
[ Still do, in a way. He looks strangely solemn about all of this. ]

[veronica voice] i hate all my friends and belph
Before I get started, I want to make sure everyone knows they should direct all their questions to Belph. Any mistakes I made or information I omit is entirely his fault. Thank you.
[SAID SO SWEETLY. SO PURE. HANDS CLASPED IN FRONT OF HER.]
... Anyway. The reason this war began is because Tiger, who is— Um, either our Tiger or her mom? Stole ink from the original Dragon, our Dragon's father. Their memories are scrambled or something? Hell if I know. But the point is, this happened a long, long time ago and now we're paying the price for it. [WHY DO PARENTS RUIN EVERYTHING?? A NOVEL.] The reason we want to avoid killing off more than three Narrators per faction is because that would lead directly to Tiger's ending. And, as much as I'd like to help her, too... We can't afford to do that without fucking ourselves over. Tiger wants to use the ink to rewrite her own story so she wouldn't have lost her loved ones. As Dragon said, we wouldn't have enough ink to rescue all of our friends if that happened. You know, like our "friend" said in their letter. Bad shit.
[Sorry, Tiger!! She stans, but. Well.]
There are two endings where we get stuck in the castle forever, but... I think we're way past both of those as long as we don't fuck up big time? I think. Don't quote me on this. The ending we're aiming for right now is Dragon's ending. We have enough objectives completed for it. We just have to allow Souji and Sanji to do their thing so all three factions are equal. [...] The, um... The only thing we really have to worry about is that Tiger might try to kill Dragon once we cross that bridge? So, um, just saying. We might want to hurry up with whatever we're gonna do. No pressure, right?
[A LOT OF PRESSURE!!!]
... Like Ion said, Souji has a potion that can do anything the drinker wants, within reason. Don't ask where he got it from. [She has Tiger PTSD!!! Weeps. Either way, she pulls out a vial and the letter she requested from Dragon.] I also found this vial and this note on Rebecca's body. I couldn't recognize the handwriting, so I was hoping someone here would? Or— That they'd at least know what the liquid inside the vial is before I go shoving my nose inside of it.
[That's all she has to say. Discuss.]

BETWIXT & BETWEEN;
With the next inhale - the mirrors floating in the garden begin to crack into faint spiderwebs that cover the entire face of the glass. Flickers of faces reflect in the shattered pieces. Faces of the Narrators who have disappeared and - others? Perhaps there are some familiar faces from home being shown to you before they flicker away again.
Dragon looks down at her own open palms, small sparks of light emanating from her fingertips. ]
... It's time.
[ Picking up her skirts, she moves to the entrance of the garden and with a glowing fingertip writes some letters into the air - Narrators won't be able to recognize the language - and there appears to be a rip in the fabric of the very air itself as a new doorway opens. She opens the doorway and turns back to those in the garden. ]
If I may make a request... come with me. There are people waiting for you.
[ The doorway will lead to a new space. A nebulous, dark room that resembles the ballroom - but lit only by large stained glass glowing surfaces. Two thrones sit at one end of the room, long table in front of them. Dragon places the glass encased rose on the table. Only once all living Narrators come into the room does the door close behind them.
A beat passes.
The doors open again, slowly - and dead Narrators step in next. Dead Narrators will find that they cannot touch the living, but they are not barred from speaking as many words to them as they wish - in a moment, anyway.
For now, everyone is silenced as Dragon reads over a scroll that she finds on the long table at the head of the room. Her brow furrows as she reads it over and then out loud: ]
Depending on course, you may save others from breathing their last.
Walk in the footsteps of legends, treacherous though it may be.
For the brave of heart, there shall be rewards aplenty.
[ With that incantation - more doors will appear in the room. Dragon eyes them all warily, before going to approach them first. Her hand reaches out to them, as if evaluating...
Then she will turn to the Narrators again.]
... it appears you have more choices to make.
MINI-ADVENTURES
We recommend groups that you're capable of comfortably threading quickly in, as characters will be given small assignments that they can fulfill. OOCly, you can have the knowledge that this will yield results that will shape the farewell log! ICly, they're going into the wild blue yonder. :')
Please comment here with your groups and the mods will give you something to do for the next 6 hours (probably shorter). Groups are encouraged to be a mix of the living and the dead. ]

DECISION ;
As they return, they hear the familiar chime of the bell from the garden. It rings and rings and rings, echoing through the space between the living realm and the Other Side. Depictions of their adventures flash through the stained glass for all of them to see, and the space around them begins to shift.
In what had previously been a dark void that held no shape or color – they’ll briefly see other people adrift in darkness. They’re not the Narrators you know from this round… but that doesn’t mean you might not see a familiar face among them, though they might be a friend from home. The image is gone as quickly as it came.
The chests brought back from the adventures line the table in front of the thrones. The keys are neatly slotted in each of them, though none have been opened yet. One by one, with each chime of the clock, the chests disappear.
Dragon watches it all with mild surprise – then a look of understanding.
Finally, the Dragon uncovers the rose and picks up the petals in her hands. With a gentle blow of wind, she scatters them onto the ink table where they turn into ink splatters and a message:]
[She speaks:]
Narrators, you have voted in the majority for Souji Okita and decreed his fate Happily Ever After. As I'm sure you all know, he was Innocent of any crime committed this week.
With this… the factions will be balanced. We are nearly at the end.
no subject
ANYWAY:]
--I have the ink from Akechi and myself, here. A token as well, if it's needed - and this. [The vial, that is. He'll just start pulling items from his clothing. APPARENTLY HE BROUGHT A LOT TO TRIAL... Someone please take them before he mcdies.]
I'd also like to make a request, if possible... [This to Dragon.] If this is the ending, may I at least ask that Kyouka not be selected to play executioner?

EXECUTION ;
This time, the culprit's appearance does not change. Souji remains exactly as he is and Dragon moves to join him. Her expression is somber, even as her brow furrows and she tells him, "Thank you, for for everything. Your pain will not be in vain."
Her eyes fall over the crowd.
"… Ion," she speaks, "If you would please join us."
Ion will find his legs moving of their own accord, though everyone else remains frozen, powerless to stop him. When he comes to a stop, the Dragon speaks again.
“In the final hour… you have been selected to finish this for all of us,” she explains, though she doesn’t seem particularly pleased about it. “At the very least, unless Souji has any particular requests, you will not be expected to complete the task with your hands alone.”
With a wave of her hand, she procures a sheet of parchment with three lines written on it:
The Adventures of Aladdin
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
What will Ion use to send Souji Okita off to his happily ever after?
no subject
Well, there's nothing else for it, is there? ]
I suppose it's finally time I properly played my own part, then?
[ There isn't much of a delay between him reading off the choices, and: ]
The Adventures of Aladdin, please.

...
FINALE ;
It lifts from its holding place, floating instead down in front of Dragon – a long, white quill descending next to it. She takes it between her fingers, and dips the tip of it in the ink.
In the air in front of the Narrators – she writes. ]
And the fallen Narrators were restored again – happy, healthy, and well.
[ In that moment, the dead will find their ghostly forms regain their lively color, their heartbeats restored, and their feet settled neatly on the ground beneath them. Deceased Narrators have been revived.
A fair amount disappears from the ink pot as the magic takes root – but there appears to be plenty leftover.
Dragon looks so happy that she could cry, holding the quill carefully in nearly trembling hands. She smiles. ]
…. thank you, everyone. Thank you so much.
[ She glances to the clock face, then to the ink pot in front of her, before letting her gaze fall upon the crowd again. ]
This ink is yours… but I must secure a way for each of you to share it. It is late… so I hope that you will be able to enjoy one more night in the castle, with each other.
Tomorrow you will embark on your journeys home… or wherever it is that you wish to go. You have my word.
[ She pulls her skirts to curtsy in front of the Narrators, bowing her head as she does. ]
You have done well… I hope you will put thought and care into how you will continue the rest of your stories – and chase your Happily Ever Afters.
[ Narrators will find the bedrooms of the castle restored to their original number – and everything revitalized into a glistening, clean state. It appears as though the castle is making one last push in order to accommodate its guests and care for them.
For the time being – Dragon will remain for questioning. ]
