CHAPTER 2 ; MINGLE
CHAPTER 2 There’s nothing to shake up the feeling of helplessness and betrayal quite like some renovations. Residents in the castle will find a gentle rumble stirring them out of their sleep on Monday morning, and if they choose to find the source of the noise, they’ll notice a newly constructed staircase on the second floor. It stretches up, up, up and will guide the Narrators to a third floor with all types of new installments to the castle. Go ahead, crack open a book, try your hand at some potion mixing. What could possibly go wrong? Just as last week, the morning that the dining hall opens, the tapestries of Ann Takamaki, Soo-won, and Dave Strider will all suddenly catch flame from the bottom, burning up and up until the entire tapestry is gone. Anyone who ventures outside will also find that the scenery has warmed up considerably. Snow no longer dusts the ground, but rather the warm sun and pleasant chirping of birds greet you to the castle grounds. The area has also been expanded, a new jousting grounds available for play and recreation. A set of stables stands next to the grounds, but anyone who ventures inside will find only hear the occasional, phantom whinny of a horse and – find some rather large feathers? Interesting. Finally, partners will find themselves unable to rest peacefully yet another week. While no paranoia creeps over anyone’s shoulders, when night falls and they find themselves sleeping, they’ll instead see dreams – or rather, some memories of their partner. Apparently the Crafters would rather that you all get to know each other sooner, rather than later. Hopefully you don’t see anything you’re not meant to. ![]() Welcome to Week 2, everyone! Today we've introduce new castle locations and brought a new round of partner effects, so please review those, including the Outside section on the Locations page. If you'd like to have your characters interact with the laboratory, please feel free to PP the mods! We would also like to remind players to submit all of their Prologue PCs and new PCs at the Private Conversations page and review the weekly ooc notes for important details in the castle. Something exciting will be arriving on Wednesday, June 20th so keep your eyes peeled for that as well.
|
WEEKLY MOD NOTES ;
♢ The castle will provide sharp knives for meal times, but they can no longer be removed from the dining hall. There are only butter knives - though one is missing, if you're the type to notice that. Sanji.
♢ The skewers that were present in the garden during trial have gone missing.
♢ Just like last week, the dead's tapestries have been burned and disappeared.
♢ Nico and Kyouka's tapestries are singed, and will remain so for the rest of the game.
♢ The Titles are also updated.
♢ The resources in the laboratory are finite, so please speak to the mods if your character would like to use anything in it. Sharing is caring.
♢ If your character is taking an item this week before investigation, please notify the mods by Wednesday at 9 PM PST so we can account for it in the write-up. In general all IC action that would impact the game must be cleared by the mods within 24 hours notice.
IN THE LIBRARY - A LEATHER-BOUND BOOK ;
Striving to dismantle this war from the inside out, the Beauty attempted to kill one of the Crafters without the Beast's knowledge, and both of them were banished to the Other Side, left to rot even as the other Narrators were returned to their own stories.
Now, the last and final battle of this war is about to begin; the fates of the Beauty, the Beast, and all the Narrators lost in the last two weeks lie in the hands of those who remain.

[Okay, so, like. There's basically no you're not going to find Reyna here on Monday - or throughout the week, even, just in case the horses come back. For now, she can be found getting the riding gear organized, making sure the hay and water are in tiptop shape, et cetera...
She probably has hay caught in her braid but you know what? It's fine. This is probably the happiest she's looked since she got here.]
monday, bathhouses;
[...or maybe this is!
There are few things in the world that compare to a good Roman bath, but this? This is pretty close. She hates to give the Crafters credit for anything, but after she's done in the stables, she's absolutely going to be here to relax.
For a good long while.
She'll probably turn into a prune but it's fine.]
tuesday, library;
[Of course, there's more to life than just stables and baths, so Reyna can be found in the library, too. She inspects the leather-bound book curiously and will wave over anyone who happens to be walking by.]
Hey, what do you think of this?
[Otherwise - she'll definitely be reading up on other topics. You might catch her hauling some books to a table, or even perched on the top of some of the shelves (how did she get up there??) to grab a book that would have been out of her reach from the ground.
Or maybe you're having trouble reaching something on a high shelf. If that's the case, she'll just clear her throat and look down at you from where she's perched.]
Want me to grab that?
anywhere, anytime;
[WILDCARD ME I'M READY FOR ANYTHING]

[ for someone that's been a bookworm all his life, the library is a pleasant addition to the wretched castle. in fact, that's where waver is going to be a good chunk of the time, always with a different book in his hands.
but the one that interests him the most is obviously the leather book on the pedestal. he always ends up gravitating towards it, reading over the words as if trying to engrave them in his mind. ]
laboratory-- monday, tuesday
[ AND FOR SOMEONE THAT PRACTICES ALCHEMY THIS IS EVEN BETTER. or, well, it should be.
except waver is staring at the laboratory absolutely pissed. his arms are crossed as he looks over the place and its ruined equipment. ]
To think these idiots would let something like this go to waste. Idiots, all of them.
[ he just continues murmuring angry comments while trying to clean up the place a little like the housewife he truly is. pile of broken crap goes here and the few usable things go there and so on and so forth. ]

[Why would Dazai be anywhere other than the library? The lack of diversity in the fiction section is disheartening (he can't shove his own novels at anyone who holds still long enough) but there's still things to read, including stories he isn't familiar with.
The book he holds onto most of the day is Gon, the Little Fox, by Niimi Nankichi. He grips it more tightly when he asks anyone who enters the library a question.]
...If your world never gets unfrozen, do you think you would be forgiven?
[tuesday, bathhouse]
[He's scoured most of the library, time to see what else is on the third floor... oh yes. Oh yes.
Dazai's sighs as he enjoys the water are practically scandalous. But scandalous is what Dazai does best. He doesn't look even remotely embarrassed if he notices someone nearby.]
This is just what we needed to make up for last week~ You think so too, don't you?
[He probably doesn't actually care what your opinion is.]
library
That said... His answer, while soft, is very matter of fact. ]
Of course not. There wouldn't be anyone capable of forgiving us.

[So Souji's gone from Questionably Healthy week 0 to Definitely Ill week 2. CONGRATS, SOUJI!!
That is to say, he definitely caught a cold last week, being exposed to freezing temperatures for 7 days straight. Having tuberculosis really does a number on your immune system... That said, is he inside resting? Hell no he isn't! Instead, he's out checking out the new jousting grounds today, carrying Saizo in his arms. No wild running around, at least. Just a leisurely stroll, enjoy the flowers on the way there without the biting edge of frost to ruin things.
He can be found poking around along the edge, or under the tent setting Saizo down in one of those gilded chairs.]
There! He looks just like an emperor now, doesn't he?
[BLASPHEMOUS.
He can also be found taking a rest on the fountain's edge, arranging flowers on his pig (cute!!!!) or coughing into a tissue (less cute).]
tuesday - dorms
[Okay yeah today is a rest day. He's been pushing himself too hard, so anyone walking through or near the fire dormitories can see one (1) Souji camped out in the common area throughout the day and into the night. He's got his pig and tissues! He's got hot chocolate and tea! He's got a plate of snacks! He's got a whole dang mountain of pillows, god knows where he pilfered them from--
And once he sees you, he's quick to beckon you over, too.]
Come, come! Have a seat. I was just about to start!
[Start what.]
wednesday - bathhouse
[Since he's feeling a little better today, he's daring to venture out into the bathhouse he's probably heard people buzzing about already! It's earlier in the morning, but Souji still politely has his mountain of hair braided and pulled back as well as possible to avoid reenacting every horror scene from Dark Water.
He can be found chilling in a corner, curiously trying to catch water from a spout in his cupped hands, or paddling around in the little alcoves.]
This is nice, isn't it?
[Even if it's inside a murder castle...
OR for those who like being a lifeguard, you can also catch him just casually taking a nap (probably) with his head against the edge of the bath, making a giant drowning hazard of himself.]
wildcard;
[Come at me for all your Sooj needs!]

[It seems that whenever you enter the library, literally at any point during the afternoons, Nico can be found in the same corner of a couch and curled up with a book in his hand. The book, at least, seems to change periodically and a pile steadily grows bigger and bigger next to him. It's hard to say if he's actually reading all of these from cover to cover (no, no he's not) but should you approach he'll look up from over the book itself.]
Did you want one of these? I think I'm finished with them.
monday, library, leather-bound book
[Granted, this book also interests him greatly and he can be found reading the lines over and over again. Feel free to read over his shoulder because once he feels a presence near by, he'll speak up.]
...who do you think they are?
jousting grounds, monday and tuesday
[Without the snow, it's easier to walk outside and spot the newest addition to the grounds and Nico makes his way over there. He recognizes the area to signify "duel" and while he can hear the horses he's confused by the lack of the animals around. He walks the jousting grounds as though getting a sense how large they are before he wanders to the stables.
The sound's going to drive him insane.]
What are you? I can hear you but I can't see you. [...yes he's talking to the horses, or lackthereof. Oh well.]
wildcard
[He'll poke around the lab, mostly avoid the bathhouse, and can be found in the gardens or the dorms or the armory. Hit me if you'd like to do something else, I'm over at

[Sousei is definitely just going to be found inspecting his own ink-stained tapestry, and then Akechi's. His lip curls a little in response--but he seems contemplative more than anything.
Ultimately, the only thing he says is:]
Well then.
[Really, Sousei.]
Library, Tuesday
[A library! Sousei lingers here more than anywhere, poking around, tugging out books and neatly putting them back, and pacing around it with more contemplation. He doesn't seem to be looking for anything in particular inasmuch as looking just to look--which is pretty unusual for someone like Sousei.
He just seems a little distracted today, it's probably fine.
He definitely just pulled the same book out twice by accident.]

[ It's warm and that's all Natsuo needs to be and stay outside for most of the week, used to going where he wants, unaccustomed to sitting still. He's running. He's got a sword in his hands, running through the halls and leaping downstairs two steps at a time to get outside... a terrible idea just in itself, coupled by the fact that he's never used a sword in his life, isn't holding it properly (flat of the blade resting on his shoulder like he's carrying a baseball bat), and that he has no sheath for it.
Haha, what stomach wound? He's fine. He'd been able to root out some gauntlets from the armory, rust falling when he shakes his arms and waves at you— be glad he's not waving the sword at you, I guess. Maybe somebody intervene and teach him how to use that sword. ]
Come here, come here! I gotta talk to you!
[ (run)
(except, he'll run after you) ]
II. jousting grounds
[ A whole new floor to the castle and Natsuo's hardly ever found in any of them. Outside at the jousting field, he tries to gather people up, waving some strips of fabric up over his head— the bandages Ion and Souji had worked so hard in making- and is repurposing them for something else. They, uh. Might be kind of bloody? But the sort of bloody where they're gross, used bandages that someone tried really hard to wash out but blood is so hard to wash out. He did his best. ]
Calvary Fight!! Let's play Calvary Fight!
wc.
[ He seems pretty set on being in people's faces this week, huh... Loud and energetic as usual, maybe a little more so, but in the very early mornings he might be found in the kitchen- never the dining hall- and his eyes are always rimmed red, like he'd been crying.
That aside, assume Monday-Wednesday for all prompts bc honestly, Wednesdays scare me more than trial days ]

[She finds herself here, trying to find any records of the previous "war games". Of course, she comes up empty save for the leather bound book.
It doesn't help her now. She doesn't think they're in the final section of their "game" with the Creators. No, they seem like they're just in the beginning stages.
There's nothing else in the book. It feels like there should be, but there's nothing there.
She flips through it multiple times, but nothing changes.
Eventually she'll give up on it and start looking around the library for other works.
If she finds something interesting too high up for her to reach she'll gesture at whoever's nearby and point up at it.]
Tuesday
[At least there's a nice bath. She'll sink in and stay for a good few hours. It's a lot. Everything that's been happening over these past two weeks is... a lot. None of the people who were killed or executed were particularly important to her. But that doesn't mean learning about how they died and seeing them get executed gets any easier.]

[To be sure, fairytales are informative—and while Sandalphon has read his share of them thus far, he's now moved on to reading other practical material. He sits in the corner of the library, where he peruses what looks like a beginner's cookbook. Flipping past complicated recipes in favor of simpler ones, he occasionally furrows his brow in concentration at the instructions or a sample picture.]
all week, kitchen;
[Sandalphon makes coffee for himself every morning. Currently, he's nursing a cup and will inform anyone who enters the kitchen of the brew.]
Coffee is ready. Help yourself if you'd like.

a, monday!
The Beauty and the Beast is a french fairy tale written in the 18th century. However, some say that the story originated around four thousand years ago.
To put it simply, the tale is about the daughter of a a poor merchant, named Belle. She is well-read, beautiful, and kind, but mistreated by all her other siblings. When her father asks if she wishes for a present from his travels, all she asks for is a rose. And while lost in a storm, Belle's father manages to find a beautiful palace, which he sleeps for the night and the day after, he found a beautiful rosebush from which he tries to pick a flower from.
[ focused on his lecture, he decides to put the book aside, and continue ]
It is then when the Beast appears, threatening to kill the merchant for having taken something so precious after accepting his hospitality. The merchant manages to convince the Beast to allow him to take the rose, but with a price-- either the merchant or one of his daughters must come back to the palace.
Learning of this, Belle makes the decision that she will go to the castle. The Beast treats her kindly, feeds her well, and dresses her in lavish clothes...and asks her to marry her every evening. And every evening, he's refused, because she only sees him as a friend.
[ when he's about to continue, waver stops for a moment. then he huffs, amused. ]
The rest of it...I believe you should read for yourself, Miss. I'm sure the fairy tale will be around here somewhere.

[finally, some good fucking
foodbooks.he's unfamiliar with a number of the fairy tales people have been talking about, so it's time for some education. you can find him skimming through stories at various hours throughout the week, tucked into a comfortable enough spot.
(notably, unlike some apparently-lucky people, his injuries from that wish incident aren't gone and he's still bandaged up, though he's changed his hairstyle a bit to work with that. he's finally bothering to wear the purple and black headband that's listed as his item, and he keeps some of his hair falling over his left eye.)
when he's not reading fairy tales, though, you might catch him taking a break to go through books on music instead, especially instructional ones.]

They don't keep much in good repair here, do they...?

[ You may not see Cardia at first-- but you will probably see a giant pile of books that she will, of course, diligently put away when she's finished.
... Whenever that will be, because somewhere in the middle of that pile of books is Cardia, who's completely engrossed in her current book.
Call out to her, or scare the crap out of her by knocking over a stack, both are likely. ]
[ tuesday - laboratory ]
[ She had good intentions. She was honestly just curious. But Cardia takes about two steps into the laboratory-- and promptly whips around and rushes back out, completely pale and looking incredibly distressed.
If she bumps into you, though, good sir or madam or whatever you are, she'll at least have the grace to speak up. ]

It's beautiful out here!
[He was really happy to be outside, before, but...well, it was cold, so it certainly took a lot out of him to spend time out there. Now, there's no such problem, and Ion feels energized to be outside in the warm sunlight. There's also a few notable differences about Ion: his wishing well scars are gone! There are some strange bruises in their place, but besides that, he's looking much more like himself. That said, it looks like he finally took the advice he was given and cut off the long twin tails of hair against the sides of his face. Perhaps that, too, will help differentiate the two of them.]
Oh? I thought there'd be animals inside.
[He sticks his head into the empty stables. He was hoping to see a cute horse! He was sure he heard them...!]
library; all week
[Like most of the other castle inhabitants, Ion is ready to embrace how big of a nerd he is. Strange, though, despite how excited he looks to be in the library, he hasn't pulled a single book. He's just sort of...wandering around with wide eyes. If you walk past with a book of your own, though, he'll stop you.]
What have you decided to read?
two ions napping; all week
[Being a small and fragile youngster, Ion can often be found just sitting around, half-to-full-asleep, in public places where he probably shouldn't be. Being a likewise small and fragile youngster, the other Ion can also be found sitting around, half-to-full asleep in public places where he probably shouldn't be! In this case, feel free to find them both together in one of the common rooms (most likely earth or wind) or the library! They're so cute and creepy...]
nap time....
He circles around them for a bit to see if they're not actually dead and he should be using his permanent outdoor voice for the good of warning people of another double murder, but once that's determined to not be the case, he pulls some books off the shelves- thin ones with floppy covers, and opens them up and sets them down over both Ions' eyes. ]

[ ahh, here we are, a lovely Tuesday around dinner time and everyone is having a good time, enjoying their meal!
and if you look outside, you may notice a beautiful, giant bird flying over from the woods and gently dumping something in front of the entrance before flying away majestically. it almost looks like it vanishes into the sunset, so well its colors blend into the sky...

MONDAY || SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS
*Grimm voice* Murdergames.
Anyway, sometime two weeks ago Jae-ha and Souji were yelling from a rooftop asking if anyone wanted to drink with them. It is now two weeks and five dead bodies later that they will be at the dining hall on Monday, because the hours are only 30 minutes and the drinks are literally bottomless.
Jae-ha announces the bet again:] Whoever finishes the most cups before the dining hall cuts us off, and remains the most sober gets to demand whatever they ask of the drunks!
[ . . . oh right.] Oh - but no murderous requests.
[Cups line up in front of them, magically filling with alcohol and bad choices.]
Shall we?
[someone will need to fucking judge who wins by the end of this]

If all of you drink, then you'll need someone sober to tell which of you is the least far gone.

MINI-EVENT ; TOURNEY
This time, instead of a village far, far away, people appear to gather out at the jousting grounds. Several regal horses neigh and nicker as they make their way through the ground with riders atop, knights dressed in their armor and lances in their hands. If you look fast enough, you may even spot some pegasi and unicorns among the regular horses.
Further away, there’s a set-up for a sword-fighting arena and a large crowd gathers there. And further, beyond the jousting grounds and the arena appears a coliseum before you, beckoning you to sign up and partake in this magnificent grand tournament. With jousting, swordplay, and hand to hand combat available there’s something for everyone.
Whether you’re here to spectate or you’re roped into signing up (go on, sign yourself up to fight against a friend! It’s all in good fun), everyone around you encourages you to partake in placing bets, having a pint to drink (age doesn’t seem to matter, strangely) and sampling the fine foods roasted over several open fires. Music plays in the background between fights to help the merry atmosphere and a few stalls with handcrafted items appear to be mixed in including flags (gold, purple and crimson in color…strange…), flower crowns, and clothing.
It’s a fun-filled day out in the sun and it wears on long into the night! As the sun sets and it becomes a bit too dark to fight, entertainment comes into play with bands, pony rides and more.
To the victor go the spoils as prizes are given out to tournament winners! Winners will receive one large, roasted hog, three chickens, and a pennant in a color of their choice with their name stitched into it.
Enjoy the fresh air and flex your skills! This may be the best time to try.
Oh, and one more thing...upon awakening Wednesday morning, every Narrator will find a painful, inexplainable cut on their body. Do take care.

[It's like the festival all over again, Reyna realizes.
Oh, sure - this time they haven't been confined to the castle all week. They've been able to wander the castle grounds. But these grounds are changed, and much livelier than they were on their own. It's strange and a little disconcerting, but...
What else are they supposed to do, today?
So Reyna can be found wandering around the grounds, taking in the sights. She watches the jousting matches with interest - snags some food to eat where she can - turns down a vendor trying to talk her into wearing a flower crown... and can even be heard negotiating with someone taking sign-ups for jousting matches.
It sounds like she's trying to talk them into letting her borrow a pegasus for the day if she wins a match or two.
Hm.]
jousting;
[And HERE SHE IS.
Reyna sits astride one of the jousting horses, a lance in one hand, the reins in the other. She looks out at her opponent (maybe it's you?) confidently before letting go of the reins to pull her helmet's visor down.
They're. Doing this, apparently. She waits for the signal to start.
...
Alternatively, catch her after she's won a few matches, pulling off the helmet and breathing in deeply now that she can get some fresh air.]
Ah... that was a good workout.
[jousts are dangerous and she probably nearly died a few times there but it's fine. she's going to give someone a hernia at this rate.]
pegasi;
[And. Well. One way or another, she's managed to get a pegasus to ride for now. She'll have to give it back at the day's end, but she looks happy enough to be with it, and is brushing out its mane and checking over its wings to make sure everything is in order.
When she hears someone approaching, she looks back at whoever it is with a smile.]
Have you ever ridden one of these before?

wednesday night
Zelos emerges from the hedge maze, battered, wounded, and very profusely bleeding from his left eye. He's got a rather bloody Sanji slung over his shoulder, and it's all he can do to stumble out and rest on his knees from the weight of his half-dead companion and the exhaustion that takes over once the adrenaline as subsides. ]

thursday morning
Kyouka walks, half-supported by Reyna, not nearly as graceful or sure in her movements as she usually is. There is a noticeable tear in her side although her blood may blend into the colors of her kimono. Try as Kyouka may to keep the new rabbit cradled in her arm pristine and unmarred, it seems like she's failing. ]
Do you think there are any bandages left...?
hi guys
[Reyna doesn't know that there will be, but... there should be. Her face is drawn and pale, and she's keeping her gaze resolutely ahead. One of her arms is around Kyouka to help keep her upright, but both of them seem to be struggling.
Blood trails behind her where she walks - it's not easy to see exactly where the wound is coming from, what with her amor and her cloak, but it's clear that she's not as uninjured as she's pretending to be.]
Don't worry, Kyouka. We'll... we'll fix this. [She takes a shaky breath, then calls out to the others.] Someone! We need a medic!
