The Story Continues... CHAPTER 233 Narrators Remain ; There’s nothing to shake up the feeling of helplessness and betrayal quite like some renovations. Residents in the castle will find a gentle rumble stirring them out of their sleep on Monday morning, and if they choose to find the source of the noise, they’ll notice a newly constructed staircase on the second floor. It stretches up, up, up and will guide the Narrators to a third floor with all types of new installments to the castle. Go ahead, crack open a book, try your hand at some potion mixing. What could possibly go wrong? Just as last week, the morning that the dining hall opens, the tapestries of Ann Takamaki, Soo-won, and Dave Strider will all suddenly catch flame from the bottom, burning up and up until the entire tapestry is gone. Anyone who ventures outside will also find that the scenery has warmed up considerably. Snow no longer dusts the ground, but rather the warm sun and pleasant chirping of birds greet you to the castle grounds. The area has also been expanded, a new jousting grounds available for play and recreation. A set of stables stands next to the grounds, but anyone who ventures inside will find only hear the occasional, phantom whinny of a horse and – find some rather large feathers? Interesting. Finally, partners will find themselves unable to rest peacefully yet another week. While no paranoia creeps over anyone’s shoulders, when night falls and they find themselves sleeping, they’ll instead see dreams – or rather, some memories of their partner. Apparently the Crafters would rather that you all get to know each other sooner, rather than later. Hopefully you don’t see anything you’re not meant to. Welcome to Week 2, everyone! Today we've introduce new castle locations and brought a new round of partner effects, so please review those, including the Outside section on the Locations page. [Rebecca nods again. He got it right.]

[melancoffeea]

I thought I saw you speaking before this. What happened? [He pauses.] Ah, never mind. It must be related to the castle.

[disclosures]

[She'll mime throwing a coin in the well.

Backlash from a wish.]

[melancoffeea]

[That takes him a second, but he gets it.]

These curses seem to be getting more and more inconvenient with time. Is it wise to continue using the well, I wonder.

[disclosures]

[Her whole posture seems to slump for a moment.

Her other hand comes up flattened, as she wobbles it from side to side. "Maybe?"]

[melancoffeea]

[Maybe, huh.]

Is this a permanent side effect?

[disclosures]

[The last time there was backlash it was only a week long.

The cup is set down as she holds up 7 fingers. Seven days.]

[melancoffeea]

Seven . . . hours? Or is it days?

It'll be troublesome if this goes on into the trial.

[He also imagines how maddening it must be, being robbed of one's voice.]

[disclosures]

[One big heavy sigh as she holds up two fingers. It's the second thing.

Trial is going to be hell for her.]

[melancoffeea]

[A few beats later, Sandalphon smiles.]

I pray that this coming trial is simple.

[disclosures]

[She winces at the idea of that.

Only the first one was simple so far, even though everybody missed the glitter that made it so obvious.

The last one was a mess.]

[melancoffeea]

The last trial was orchestrated in part by a detective. I doubt many of us will utilize that same level of complexity.

[Not to say that the others are stupid, but only so many people can be crafty. And dramatic.]

[disclosures]

[This is... probably true!

She puts the coffee down and then makes a dramatic sweeping gesture with one hand before bowing.

"Very Dramatique."

Once she's done with that she goes back to sipping on the coffee.]

[melancoffeea]

A shame that it wasn't as graceful.

[He follows her example and drinks what's left of the coffee from his cup. It gives him a moment to ponder about the future.]

I wonder . . . will this go on until there's a single survivor?

[disclosures]

[She doesn't think that's right... That seems like far too few people. A shake of her head before she starts cleaning out her mug.]

[melancoffeea]

No? What do you suppose, then?

[disclosures]

[There's a moment as she considers it before putting up all ten fingers.

She hopes it's more than that, but ten seems reasonable enough to her.]

[melancoffeea]

That's a generous number.

Hm. Perhaps it isn't the number we should be looking at.

[disclosures]

[She tilts her head and then gestures at him.

What does he think?]

[melancoffeea]

Ah, just a fleeting thought. I'm as lost as you on this.

[disclosures]

[She'll gesture at him again.

Have a guess?]

[melancoffeea]

You might have heard this yesterday, but there are multiple win conditions. Some, more preferable to others; or so it was said . . . Logically, then, there should be a route where some sort of collective action goes beyond the basic rules of the game.

[He waves a hand dismissively.]

But I haven't a clue as to what that action might be.

[disclosures]

[Objectives, maybe. But that's incredibly difficult to gesture and she can't say it.

She hates this.

Instead she just nods for the moment. If she can get him to the library, she might be able to find a book with that word in it. But is he going to follow that conversation?]

[melancoffeea]

[He can certainly try, should she mime a library. He looks at her, and while it's difficult for her to communicate, he would like to hear her thoughts.]

Do you have an idea?

[disclosures]

[She makes a motioning gesture and then mime reading a book.

Follow her to the library, because she's hovering right at the door, waiting for him to follow.]
