The Story Continues... CHAPTER 233 Narrators Remain ; There’s nothing to shake up the feeling of helplessness and betrayal quite like some renovations. Residents in the castle will find a gentle rumble stirring them out of their sleep on Monday morning, and if they choose to find the source of the noise, they’ll notice a newly constructed staircase on the second floor. It stretches up, up, up and will guide the Narrators to a third floor with all types of new installments to the castle. Go ahead, crack open a book, try your hand at some potion mixing. What could possibly go wrong? Just as last week, the morning that the dining hall opens, the tapestries of Ann Takamaki, Soo-won, and Dave Strider will all suddenly catch flame from the bottom, burning up and up until the entire tapestry is gone. Anyone who ventures outside will also find that the scenery has warmed up considerably. Snow no longer dusts the ground, but rather the warm sun and pleasant chirping of birds greet you to the castle grounds. The area has also been expanded, a new jousting grounds available for play and recreation. A set of stables stands next to the grounds, but anyone who ventures inside will find only hear the occasional, phantom whinny of a horse and – find some rather large feathers? Interesting. Finally, partners will find themselves unable to rest peacefully yet another week. While no paranoia creeps over anyone’s shoulders, when night falls and they find themselves sleeping, they’ll instead see dreams – or rather, some memories of their partner. Apparently the Crafters would rather that you all get to know each other sooner, rather than later. Hopefully you don’t see anything you’re not meant to. Welcome to Week 2, everyone! Today we've introduce new castle locations and brought a new round of partner effects, so please review those, including the Outside section on the Locations page. ... Damn, did you read all of these?

[Sounding pretty awed. Sanji's got a book in hand, but frankly? It's a cooking book.]

[resumed]

Not all of them. [He tilts his head slightly.] Just that pile on the left. [It's significantly smaller, maybe 3-4 books though they're a decent size.] I read about half of the rest of them though.

[concasse]

Don't suppose you found anything to help us make a miraculous escape, eh?

[resumed]

Only if you believe in faith, trust and pixie dust. [There's a small grin.] But I'm looking. There are probably thousands of books here...maybe we'll find one that teaches us how to break the barrier around the castle. Everything from there would be easy.

[concasse]

[Smirking back]

Well, I'll help with the search once I'm finished with my own research.

[Holding up his own book]

Gotta admit, this library is impressive... some of these dishes I've never heard of.

[resumed]

[He can at least respect the guy for finding something to do.]

Which one do you think you're going to start with first? But I will agree it's impressive. I've never had access to this many books even with public libraries.

[concasse]

I've only seen a library this big once in my life.

[A shrug]

Start? You mean books? [Assuming that's what the other is referring to--] Anything and everything. I don't really know where to start.

[resumed]

Well that too, but I meant dishes. You cook all your own stuff, right? [It's both. Nico doesn't mind broaching topics and letting people pick what he means.]

[concasse]

Yeah, I do.

[Lifting the book again, though he doesn't open it.]

There's dishes from this place called, uh... France? I recognize most of the recipes, but they got shit like ratatouille that I never heard of.

[resumed]

[A little smile.] Food from Europe tends to be a little different depending where you look. Northern Europe focuses on meats and less on grains and vegetables whereas the southern part of the continent is the opposite of that. It's why places like Italy and the Mediterranean have a lot of recipes using pasta and vegetables, traditionally. [A beat.] I've never been to France though, so it could be split.

[He just happens to remember things from childhood, please ignore him rambling.] Think it'll be hard to make?

[concasse]

[Sanji has heard of none of these places, but listens intently otherwise.]

Interesting... it's kinda like that where I'm from, except instead of regions you just have islands, all with their way of doing shit.

[Tucking the book under his arm again]

So long as I got the right equipment, I'll be fine. You can make anything with enough patience.

[resumed]

Even with patience, what happens if it turns out to be something bad? Like you just screw up the recipes and stuff even if you keep practicing. [But that's a fair point. He wants to ask about those islands, too, just because it's polite and he's curious himself, but that's irrelevant maybe.] I'm not sure all of us are meant to be great in a kitchen.

[concasse]

Maybe not great, but at least competent. [Scratching at his chin]

But I grew up with chefs near my entire life, so maybe I don't know what it means to be "bad" at cooking anymore.

[People who can't boil water need to donate their brains to science is all he's saying.]

[resumed]

It's possible. [That's a thought.] I've never learned how to and I'm not sure I'll ever really need to. I've been getting by just fine without it. [...] Do you actually have a full kitchen on your ship?

[Sanji's a pirate. He obviously has a ship.]

[concasse]

Everyone on a pirate ship would starve if there wasn't one.

[Clucks his tongue. SORRY HE IS GOING BACK TO THAT FIRST POINT]

What do you mean you'll never really need to? You got someone cooking for you?

[resumed]

[LOOK. But yeah, about that. He settles for a shrug.]

I live at a summer camp year round these days. Food's provided and everything, and when I'm traveling mini-marts and McDonald's exist. It's not so bad.

[concasse]

What's a McDonald?

[resumed]

[...he's trying not to laugh.]

It's a fastfood chain. They sell hamburgers and fries and stuff. I haven't asked yet, but I have wondered if the dining room could be tricked into serving a Happy Meal.

[concasse]

Sure. I can't guarantee it's fine dining or anything but you might be okay with it. [And Sanji can apparently sample it at the trial because this is where our life has gone.]
