The Story Continues... CHAPTER 233 Narrators Remain ; There’s nothing to shake up the feeling of helplessness and betrayal quite like some renovations. Residents in the castle will find a gentle rumble stirring them out of their sleep on Monday morning, and if they choose to find the source of the noise, they’ll notice a newly constructed staircase on the second floor. It stretches up, up, up and will guide the Narrators to a third floor with all types of new installments to the castle. Go ahead, crack open a book, try your hand at some potion mixing. What could possibly go wrong? Just as last week, the morning that the dining hall opens, the tapestries of Ann Takamaki, Soo-won, and Dave Strider will all suddenly catch flame from the bottom, burning up and up until the entire tapestry is gone. Anyone who ventures outside will also find that the scenery has warmed up considerably. Snow no longer dusts the ground, but rather the warm sun and pleasant chirping of birds greet you to the castle grounds. The area has also been expanded, a new jousting grounds available for play and recreation. A set of stables stands next to the grounds, but anyone who ventures inside will find only hear the occasional, phantom whinny of a horse and – find some rather large feathers? Interesting. Finally, partners will find themselves unable to rest peacefully yet another week. While no paranoia creeps over anyone’s shoulders, when night falls and they find themselves sleeping, they’ll instead see dreams – or rather, some memories of their partner. Apparently the Crafters would rather that you all get to know each other sooner, rather than later. Hopefully you don’t see anything you’re not meant to. Welcome to Week 2, everyone! Today we've introduce new castle locations and brought a new round of partner effects, so please review those, including the Outside section on the Locations page. He looks over - well, around - Waver's shoulder at the book on the pedestal.]

Does that mean anything to you?

waver continues to read for a moment, and then sighs. ]

A tale of a former 'war', most likely. Similar to the one we are in now.

Going against the Crafters leads to a permanent death, even if other Narrators at the end of the war are returned... Of course that doesn't make murdering someone innocent easy, but it's technically the easier choice if that's true.

[ he grimaces, putting a hand on his chin ]

Yes, that certainly seems to be the case. However... [ he thinks about what he's about to say for a moment, as if unsure of whether or not he should ask what's on his mind. ]

Where do the deaths we choose for the culprits-- happily ever after and to be continued -- play a part in this false war? Do they play a part at all?

...Personally, I would vote to be continued just because it seems more merciful... and I don't want to have to do the deed myself.

[Yes, he voted happily ever after last week, but he wanted to know what the hell that even meant. And now he knows.]

I am referring to the knowledge of this "Other Side". Does 'happily ever after' send you to a different place than 'to be continued'? If so, which one is better? Which one is worse? And is this 'other side' real? If so, can we reach that 'other side'?

Short of asking our hosts or having a communion with the dead, I don't know how you would determine any of that.

Apparently their fate rides on our actions, so... incentive to 'win' this war and bring the story a happy ending? Or a warning about what happens to people who go against the Crafters?

It may be the former. In fact, if you pay attention, it seems that the fates of Beauty and Beast are not set in stone yet.

[ he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose ]

To put so many people's lives on the line...how despicable.

They're not exactly moral people. ...But then again, fairy tales aren't always 'nice', or have a happy ending for anyone...

Isn't that how it's supposed to be with the fey? Their rules aren't our rules, their morals aren't our morals and seem alien and arbitrary. Learning to work within those rules is the best way to make it out alive.

...Then again, I've never met the fey before this. I'm the only kind of intelligent spirit I know.

Yes, that is correct. Adapting to their bizarre ideas is most likely the best way to survive without possibly angering them. [ a shrug ] Although this is not the first time I've met intelligent spirits, it is definitely the first time I've met two with this sort of nature.

[ but then he thinks about tiger...and who that reminds him of...and he makes a sour face. ]

Although I doubt that sort of personality is exclusive to their kind.

It might not be exclusive to them, but it's a lot more troublesome when they have the power to make you play by their rules.
