CHAPTER 233 Narrators Remain ;

There’s nothing to shake up the feeling of helplessness and betrayal quite like some renovations.

Residents in the castle will find a gentle rumble stirring them out of their sleep on Monday morning, and if they choose to find the source of the noise, they’ll notice a newly constructed staircase on the second floor. It stretches up, up, up and will guide the Narrators to a third floor with all types of new installments to the castle.

Go ahead, crack open a book, try your hand at some potion mixing.

What could possibly go wrong?

Just as last week, the morning that the dining hall opens, the tapestries of Ann Takamaki, Soo-won, and Dave Strider will all suddenly catch flame from the bottom, burning up and up until the entire tapestry is gone.

Anyone who ventures outside will also find that the scenery has warmed up considerably. Snow no longer dusts the ground, but rather the warm sun and pleasant chirping of birds greet you to the castle grounds. The area has also been expanded, a new jousting grounds available for play and recreation. A set of stables stands next to the grounds, but anyone who ventures inside will find only hear the occasional, phantom whinny of a horse and – find some rather large feathers?

Interesting.

Finally, partners will find themselves unable to rest peacefully yet another week. While no paranoia creeps over anyone’s shoulders, when night falls and they find themselves sleeping, they’ll instead see dreams – or rather, some memories of their partner. Apparently the Crafters would rather that you all get to know each other sooner, rather than later.

Hopefully you don’t see anything you’re not meant to.

Welcome to Week 2, everyone! Today we've introduce new castle locations and brought a new round of partner effects, so please review those, including the Outside section on the Locations page. If you'd like to have your characters interact with the laboratory, please feel free to PP the mods! We would also like to remind players to submit all of their Prologue PCs and new PCs at the Private Conversations page and review the weekly ooc notes for important details in the castle.

[ HELLO???

hikage is contemplating throwing his dinner right at stephanie's big dumb reckless head, honestly, but instead, he's just running over... again. God help him, this is the second time he's done this in a week. Once again, he looks more angry than worried, but one also gets the sense that he deals with his worries by getting angry, so. ]

Are you kidding me?! I need a stronger word than "idiot" for you!

[ okay she knew that she was going to have to deal with hikage sooner or later because it would be kind of hard to hide this when they share a room. stephanie was definitely hoping it would be later though. ]

H... hey.

[ she gives a very short wave. ]

[ believe it or not, hikage eats dinner with everyone like a normal person, despite being an anti-social weirdo, so he is indeed here to bear witness to her shambling into the mansion absolutely destroyed. Again. He was infuriated before; now, he seems more tired and exasperated, although still angry, without a doubt. ]

Are you trying to get both of us killed? Do I have to put a leash on you or something?

[ even as he yells at her, though, he's kneeling down to check her injuries. ]

What happened this time?

[ there is a pause before she answers. she's in pain, so that makes sense, really. ]

Wolves. [ steph gestures, but what she is trying to communicate is a little lost. ] Can you not talk so loud?

I'll stop shouting when you stop giving me reasons.

[ he pinches his face in annoyance... but he does lower his voice a little. just for you, steph... ]

What do you mean, wolves?

[ thank you, she doesn't deserve it... ]

Wolves. They were-- can we talk about this later?

[ a sigh... but he glances around at their surroundings, and he understands. Maybe it's sensitive information. This isn't the best place to discuss these things. ]

... We'll talk about this tonight. [ a pause. he looks... slightly awkward, but luckily, he's too irritated with her to be deterred. ] I want to take a look at your leg. Can I touch you?

[ even hikage can already tell it's probably broken, but he wants to check. having her out of commission over this is... unfortunate. ]

[ it this was any other situation, she would probably make some sort of joke about how he's always welcome to do that. instead, steph simply nods her head. ]

Yeah. Be careful?

[ seriously it hurts a lot more than she's been letting on. ]

It's going to hurt no matter what.

[ at least he gives her a heads up before he gently feels her leg. however, be warned that he was completely right. ]

[ yup that's bad

she flinches, hard, and it's obvious that she's trying not to make any actual noise. ]

It's definitely broken.

[ he can say that with confidence - too bad he's less confident on what to actually do about it. They could set it and splint it, but there has to be someone with more first-aid know-how than him - he's not about to mess up and make it worse. Of course, it would be nice if they could heal it entirely, but the only way to do that he can think of is... undesirable. Hikage sighs. Mercifully, he moves his hand away from her injury to rest slightly above her knee, instead. ]

Now what are you going to do? You can't walk on this. [ a beat. ] ... You're a sitting duck.

I'll figure something out.

[ she doesn't really have any other choice at this point.

she'll worry about that later. there's no point in making any of the people here concerned. ]

[ he gives her a look that says "i doubt it," because he knows you were trying to do cartwheels on your slashed ankles the other day, Stephanie! ]

We might be able to make a cane or a crutch for you out of one of the spears in the armory. The only other option is trying the wishing well, which probably isn't a good idea.

[ why does she always have to get hurt? he pinches the bridge of his nose. ]

You're a real handful, you know that?

... crutches, I think. I don't think a cane will work.

[ she'll be honest there, at least. ]

I get that a lot though, yeah.

[ walks out to check the commotion of the eagles dropping off sam and frodo here just in time to hear, ]

Wolves?

[ IMMEDIATELY LEAVES wolves are terrible ]

[ what. ]
