CHAPTER 6 ; MINGLE
CHAPTER 6 Feels a bit… gloomy, doesn’t it? There are no rumbles to wake Narrators this week. Rather, they are left to rise as they please. The castle has not expanded, there are no new changes, rather they are left exactly with everything that they have been given – like there are no new distractions for them to pull their attention away from their own mistakes of days gone by. As they enter the dining hall, the fire that eats away at Abe no Sousei, Jae-ha, Osamu Dazai, and Reyna RamÃrez-Arellano's tapestries must serve as an unfortunate reminder. How unpleasant. At the very least, the rain has stopped. So that’s one thing to look forward to. Yet it doesn’t entirely feel as though they’re… alone. Out of the corner of their eye, they might see the faint glow of a candle in the distance, or a floating fire. Should they try to follow the mirage, they’ll likely be led to another room of the castle without a single disturbance, a dead end. Except – the next time they look in the mirror, they’ll find the face of one of the dead Narrators staring back at them. Blink and then they’re gone. Partners might find this week’s effect to be a bit… inconvenient. At random points in the week, they’ll suddenly feel compelled to be honest with each other. Secrets can still remain, but communication is key in a situation like this, wouldn’t you say? Try a bit of truth – see where it gets you. Hopefully nowhere unfortunate. ![]() Welcome to Week 6, everyone! Hopefully you all enjoyed your break week and are ready for your regularly scheduled murder! We would also like to remind players to submit all of their Chapter 5 PCs and new PCs at the Private Conversations page and review the weekly ooc notes for important details in the castle. Something curious will be arriving on Wednesday, July 18th so keep your eyes peeled for that as well.

♢ It seems that some rope has gone missing from the Jousting Grounds.
♢ Should your character have a wish to make or complete their objective, remember to report it to the Wishing Well. If you have any questions about your character's skills or objective, please contact us!
♢ If your character is taking an item this week before Investigation please notify the mods by Wednesday at 9 PM PST so we can account for it. In general all IC action that would impact the game must be cleared by the mods within 24 hours notice.
♢ The following actions require mods to be notified: leaving items at the Tiger or Dragon shrines, using items in the laboratory, items being taken from public spaces, consuming medicine from the infirmary, or damage being done to puppets.
♢ Since it was mentioned on the Private Conversations but not common knowledge - if you would like to PC with Tiger or Dragon, please PP the mods.
(frozen comment) IN THE LIBRARY - A LEATHER-BOUND BOOK ;
Striving to dismantle this war from the inside out, the Beauty attempted to kill one of the Crafters without the Beast's knowledge, and both of them were banished to the Other Side, left to rot even as the other Narrators were returned to their own stories.
Now, the last and final battle of this war is about to begin; the fates of the Beauty, the Beast, and all the Narrators lost in the last two weeks lie in the hands of those who remain.
The narrators must bear in mind that what is beautiful is often cruel.
Be that as it may, the Narrators who replenish the inkwell through achievement shall be rewarded with beautiful wishes, and a desirable ending need not be writ by the ink of life.
Nor should Narrators strive to spill entirely gold or purple ink; the results could be disastrous.
Each faction must complete seven objectives for the happiest conclusion to the story to come to pass.
A LETTER & A THING ;
Salutations,
I come to you with a gift. That is, the gift of knowledge.
It is in the best interest of every Narrator that the number of survivors per faction does not dip below three at any given time. Should the numbers dwindle beyond this point, the results will be disastrous. Furthermore, all factions should strive to complete at least seven objectives among their ranks. This is of the utmost importance.
As a show of goodwill, here is information some of you may already be familiar with regarding the special roles at play in this game. There are:
Five Historians.
Two Editors.
One Shield.
One Alchemist.
Two Viziers.
The Narrators with these roles are not your enemies. For a pleasant ending to be achieved, it is vital that we strive to work together as one.
May this letter find you well.
- A friend
On a table in the dining room there are three glass jars, color-coded with three beautiful bows. One jar has a red bow, one has a yellow bow and the last has a purple bow. Each jar is also labeled "Heroes" on the yellow jar, "Civilians" on the red jar, and "Villains" on the purple jar in coordinating ink on a piece of parchment tucked into the bows. This handwriting is also written in a script unknown to all Narrators. Next to each jar is a pile of color-coded buttons as well.
There is a small note next to the jars that reads:
Put one button in the jar belonging to your faction for every objective you've achieved.

[It seems like she hasn't gotten much sleep over the weekend.
The owl pesters her in the morning during the meal. Since it won't leave her alone, she'll open it. She looks pretty surprised at the letter- that's... hm. She turns to whoever's closest to her.]
What do you think each of these roles do?
Tuesday, Library
[She really hasn't been sleeping that well. Between the stress of watching people die week after week and the stress of the trials she's jut tired.
But at the same time she hasn't really managed to sleep much.
So by the time she makes it to the library on Tuesday she's lying down right next to a pile of books.] Just... five minutes...
monday
I suppose they may relate to their names. It seems those mysterious Historians have history to tell us, after all... So wouldn't the editors be able to change things, the shield be able to shield, and so on?

he looks at his own list, and wonders. ]
It's all in the name, isn't it? [ he points to the vizier ] The word comes from the Turkish word vezir, which means "counselor", which comes from the Arabic word wazir, which is equivalent to a viceroy. Of course, wazir itself has a couple of possible etymologies, one more accepted than the other.
[ he takes a long sip of his coffee, and continues, nodding to himself. in a way, he seems to be somewhere between talking to himself and giving Rebecca a lecture. ]
The most accepted etymology comes from the idea that it is derived from the Arabic word wazara, which means "to bear a burden", from the Semitic root W-Z-R. In the Quran, Moses' helper Aaron, was actually first referred to as a wazir, and the word wizr, or "burden", was also used in that text.
In the modern age, the term Wazir and its variations are used to denote government roles in many Islamic countries.
[ he'll take that moment to pause, and take a good drink of that coffee. ]

[well. he'd wondered how long this would take to show up-- as he stops in here in the morning, shirasu pauses for a moment to look over that dripping tapestry.
it figures that it's just his this time, huh?
but he doesn't seem particularly alarmed or surprised. he turns to leave the hall without saying anything about it.]
other days, gardens-
[the rain definitely put a damper on things, but now that it's gone, it's good to get out in the air again. you'll find him in the company of the tiny red and black dragon he seems to have adopted, watching it explore the flowers or just romp excitedly around, though sometimes it's napping on his shoulder if it's worn itself out.
whenever anyone approaches, he'll give them a small, polite smile.]
I was a bit worried the rain would keep up, but- it feels better not to be stuck indoors, doesn't it.
etc-
[or if you want something else, places he hangs out include the library, music hall, and observatory (and ofc the kitchen sometimes) so feel free to wildcard something!]
Tuesday, afternoon
Rebecca remains animal free.]
It's nice to get some fresh air. I'd way rather live somewhere sunny.

[That was odd. He doesn't like it, but he followed a candle this morning simply out of curiosity and the face he found in the mirror was another reminder of the failure from the weekend.
With that being said anyone in the castle might notice that Nico's taking a few sandwiches, a glass of juice, and a shovel out toward the stables. Should one follow, they'll find him digging a hole and...throwing the sandwiches in the hole? What the hell is he doing?
He doesn't seem to notice anyone approaching either as he grabs the glass of juice and pours it directly into the hole. Aurum follows along with him, standing guard. Depending on who you are, the dog may bark or growl.]
Tuesday, owlery
[When he's not outside, he's found in the owlery writing...what looks like a stack of letters? It's not really a stack of letters but it's a draft that he keeps working on on a few sheets of parchment. Ink is smeared on his hands and he scribbles frantically, Aurum asleep at his feet as Nico frowns intently at the words.
Eventually he's annoyed enough to crumple the whole thing up and throw it...only for Aurum to wake up and play fetch?]
Aurum, no. I don't want that. [The dog drops the paper at Nico's feet again and Nico sighs.] I don't even know what I'm supposed to say anymore.
Tuesday also, morgue
[For anyone who enters the morgue on this fine-ass day, they'll find one (1) teenager sitting on the ground with the golden dog checking on a few glass cases. Namely, he's looking over the cases of Yasusada and Reyna, though a few others get some sparing looks. Eventually he'll move but should you enter, he'll speak up.]
Do you find it comforting or disturbing to have them here? [Hello.]
wildcard
[Hit me with other stuff or hit me for PCs throughout the week! He's sticking primarily to his dorm, the owlery, the armory, and the observatory.]

IN ANY CASE, since Souji's just out here in the dorm resting, he'll be able to hear the music as soon as it starts up. It's only after a few songs that he eventually moves on over to the door to Belph's room, settling himself outside of it instead and listening quietly until there's a break between keys.]

[Another weekend passed, another week where Souji looks like he's taken a fresh step toward the loving arms of DEATH. It takes him a wheezy while to get up and down the stairs now, and the coughing he'd mostly been able to hide or keep under control is happening with greater frequency. Even his breath at rest sometimes has an unpleasant rattle. Hm. It's why he's spending most of his time resting in Earth Dorm, like he'd done weeks ago when he had a cold from the snow. Minimal moving... is good...
But hey! While he can't move as easily, his pet pig sure can! Maybe you're in another dorm, poking around in the tailor, checking out the armory or infirmary - but suddenly, there's a RUDE HEADBUTT against your ankles. It's... it's this tiny, angry, very round pig. It makes a strange piggy noise - BUKII! - and either headbutts you again, tries to grab your pants/shoelace/sock/whatever's within reach in its evil pig mouth, or just straight-up gets underfoot for no apparent reason. Don't step on him, he's very delicate!!]
morgue, mon-weds mornings;
[Ah yes, the spooky body den, where Souji will also be spending his time. Generally speaking, you can find him in here doing one of three things:
A) Arranging flowers near the cases. He'll only be doing this Monday, since it takes him approximately 1000 years to get out to the gardens, get flowers, and get back up here. But he lays them out with care, and makes sure to clean away the old and dying ones left earlier.
B) Singing! Most of his songs are traditional folk tunes, and Souji's singing voice is actually quite pretty - soft and gentle with a rising, lilting quality. There is, however, something harsh behind the notes. Tuberculosis gunk, y'know. Sometimes, he'll have to stop to clear his throat or cough. For the most part, he can be found singing with his back against Jae-ha's case, eyes closed.
C) S...leeping... Look he's not well and he's not bothered by dead people!! He's just fuckin passed out on the floor next to various cases or maybe just outside of the morgue door, probably looking like he should be put into one. It's fine.]

[ so since this is the time that Most People are all gathered in one place because otherwise you have to intrude on sanji's love affair with the kitchen to eat, Varian will be using this opportunity to clear his throat and grab everyone's attention! ]
Hi. [ gonna. start off with that. he pulls a piece of paper out of his pocket ] It's... I guess it's a bit redundant now, but the Historians asked me to share this with everyone after Saturday? They're, I believe they're trying to be as open and honest with everyone as they can, given the limitations of their roles.
[ he sounds nervous, but earnest. anyway, he reads it out loud for everyone:
To the Narrators:
We are the group known as the Historians. We understand the Dragon made you all suspicious of us when she announced our existence. Despite that, we're asking you to trust us. We're here to help you reach your happy ending.
One of us has been in contact with Beauty and the Beast. We want to share part of the letter they wrote to them with all of you, to stress the importance of completing objectives. Here is what they said:
"To achieve a happy ██████ and ████ ██ from the █████ ████, each faction ████ complete ██ █████ seven objectives."
As Historians, we're aware that the Hero faction has completed a lot more than seven objectives. Civilians and Villains, you guys need to step it up! We know your objectives might suck, but we need you to work with us. Our objective is to get you your happy ending.
No matter what your suspicions towards us might be, please at least trust our intentions. Thank you for your time.
Good luck, everyone.
listen he did say it might be redundant now ]
And that's ... it. Thank you for listening?
[ after that, he's going to be leaving the letter up in the dining hall for anyone to read at any time should they wish it. ]

in any case, this morning, he's probably to be seen zombie shuffling still half-asleep into the kitchen, yawning, to. what, make himself a sandwich? a salad? some tea?

tuesday, library;
[ ion you already opened a top level with napping in the library once you can't do that again.
well, no, it turns out he can. it looks like he's doing research or something like it- he keeps glancing back at the Book, every so often- and there's a cup of tea nearby alongside with a couple of books relating to the titles people might possess here.
still, he looks on the verge of dozing off every so often, given how he has to keep rousing himself by shaking himself awake. ]

Ion + Natsuo Joint Sleepover Toplevel!
[It doesn't matter where you are--Ion and Natsuo--or just Ion, or just Natsuo--will find you, flagging you down in about how you'd expect. So, a soft-spoken but earnest greeting from Ion and probably running and shouting from Natsuo. Either way, the message is ultimately the same.]

Tuesday Night; Observatory
[And there's no time like the present, right? Like, who knows who will even be here next week, or who could be violently maimed by Wednesday? Yeah, this is happening now. The door to the observatory is currently open while everyone (hopefully) trickles in. Ion and Natsuo have already brought all of the pillows and blankets from their room, and hopefully you and others will be bringing yours as well. Ion, at least, greets anyone who comes in with a smile.]
I'm glad you decided to join us! Thank you so much for coming!

MINI-EVENT ; DAY OF THE DEPARTED
Reunite with those you wish to see, even if they may have to meet you silently.
Speak phrases up to ten words long, or remain until the blush of dawn.
Onto sweet memories you must hold fast, for this time you see them may be your last.
Should living Narrators leave offerings for dead Narrators – it will open a line that will allow the dead Narrator to cross over. The dead Narrator must abide by the following rules and will be aware of them as they manifest:
In addition to the above, living Narrators will find upon waking that there will be an imprint of what they desire most visible on their body. Shall the discussion point be their new tattoo?
Or shall they use the time to better get a chance to say the things that had been left unsaid?
