CHAPTER 622 Narrators Remain ;

Feels a bit… gloomy, doesn’t it?

There are no rumbles to wake Narrators this week. Rather, they are left to rise as they please. The castle has not expanded, there are no new changes, rather they are left exactly with everything that they have been given – like there are no new distractions for them to pull their attention away from their own mistakes of days gone by. As they enter the dining hall, the fire that eats away at Abe no Sousei, Jae-ha, Osamu Dazai, and Reyna Ramírez-Arellano's tapestries must serve as an unfortunate reminder.

How unpleasant.

At the very least, the rain has stopped. So that’s one thing to look forward to.

Yet it doesn’t entirely feel as though they’re… alone. Out of the corner of their eye, they might see the faint glow of a candle in the distance, or a floating fire. Should they try to follow the mirage, they’ll likely be led to another room of the castle without a single disturbance, a dead end.

Except – the next time they look in the mirror, they’ll find the face of one of the dead Narrators staring back at them.

Blink and then they’re gone.

Partners might find this week’s effect to be a bit… inconvenient. At random points in the week, they’ll suddenly feel compelled to be honest with each other. Secrets can still remain, but communication is key in a situation like this, wouldn’t you say? Try a bit of truth – see where it gets you.

Hopefully nowhere unfortunate.

Welcome to Week 6, everyone! Hopefully you all enjoyed your break week and are ready for your regularly scheduled murder! It's what makes sense to me, at least? Not that that's ever a big factor here. Sense.

If anything made sense people couldn't be raised from the dead and magic wouldn't exist.

Um, well, I think that depends on what's normal for everyone?

.... Am I the only one who's never seen actual magic before? That's so unfair.

Statistically speaking, it is very weird that you'd be the only one. But, um. I'm sure you're not? V's never said anything about magic.

Great! Two out of 38, that's still weird.

Yeah, that percentage should really be higher. It might be tied into why we were all picked for this in the first place?

Why were we picked? Are there any commonalities at all? It's clearly not ink dripping.

I've been attempting to keep track of possible reasons, but I don't believe there's anything all thirty-eight of us had in common, although it's difficult to tell for some of the earliest victims. The only thing I can think of has a commonality is that all of us have a story, but everyone has stories to tell. Although if we consider that the last iteration of this war was merely a year ago, this may be a perpetual cycle with victims being pulled from all over at random.

Ergh, what an awful existence. Watching people kill each other over and over- I guess it's fun for Tiger. She doesn't seem that bothered with anything.

Dragon definitely looked disappointed this weekend.

We're really bad during trials.

We ... definitely do not have the greatest track record, but-- I'm sure we're all learning from our experiences?

... We only made it the first couple of trials because the person confessed.

The one before this, we couldn't decide on anything. The last one we missed an entire body. Maybe we'll actually check everywhere this time.

Well, that's... technically all true, but.

Maybe we've learned from our ... numerous ... mistakes.

Do you think the lack of finger prints was actually a piece of evidence?

I think half the people here wear gloves [ he raises a hand in. example ] and that we found gloves that had been used in the tailor itself, and that everyone here knows we check for finger prints ... every trial.

[ it's a bit deadpan. ]

I think if we ever actually manage to find valid finger prints again, our killer will be Natsuo.

The size of the gloves fit everybody too. I'm not looking forward to this weekend.

... I'd rather Natsuo never killed a person. I'm sure he could if he had to, but I really don't want him to.

Neither am I.

I'd--I'd rather no one have to, really, but that's not looking likely.

There's at least one kill each week... though now it's looking like we might have another three.

You really think so? We don't have that many people left.

There's 22 of us left.

It's still not that many.

It still gives us room to lose five people. Three people killed, one person executed one one person partnerless. If whoever's pairing the spares stops.

I'd rather it didn't come to that.

I-- I was saying, that since there's only so many of us left, maybe the murderers would ... chill out a little?
