CHAPTER 3 ; TRIAL
CHAPTER 3 - WEEK 3 Wakey wakey, naughty murder children. It's a lovely Saturday, after all. Breakfast is served piping hot at its usual time and all of the evidence has been removed from the scenes of yesterday. No matter how you choose to spent your morning though, the clock will begin to chime the moment both hands reach the large, ornate twelve. Before your eyes materializes a door...but not just any door. Unlike the door leading to the festival, this door sits primly and properly right in front of the foyer. Whether you exit the castle on your own or you feel a friendly, invisible push, you begin to walk under an arc of wisterias. Behind you, the clock continues to chime with every step you take. By the time the time the clock strikes twelve, you've entered a beautiful garden. In front of you is a long table, 19 seats on each side. Around the garden are several glass cases containing evidence collected yesterday. As noon intensifies on the sun-shaped clock, you'll find Tiger at the head of the table, a glass-covered rose near her right hand. Tick tock, Narrators. You have nine hours to deliberate. Throughout today's trial, the delightful, delectable scent of freshly brewed coffee will linger in the air though there will be no coffee present. Instead, today's trial snacks include...finger foods. ![]() Welcome to your trial post! Please see here for the OOC summary of events from yesterday's investigation. In addition, please be sure to vote! Please see the voting page on how to vote, as we will have two special things to vote for. Voting will close at 9pm EST/6pm PST! If you have any questions, please ask on our Discord server or ping us on plurk. Please direct pings for the NPC to Danielle (

BODY EXAMINATION
this isn't actually anything but
Whatever it is, he's quick about it, eyes reopening in short order even if they stay uncharacteristically sharp afterwards. He was a safe, respectful distance from the cases before; he takes just one step toward his partner's now.
His voice is still quiet, but it carries just that little bit much better now that he's actually properly speaking. ]
You... promised me that you would keep me safe, when I never asked for such a thing. That you would protect me, and that if ever you were to be my death, then it would have been because of circumstances out of your control. And yet you must have known, and known that I would have known-- that so much is out of our hands, here.
Still you kept promising, whenever I doubted.
What... [ he says, drawing out the word as he makes a soft, aimless gesture in the air with his free hand, ] exactly, did you think to accomplish with that?
[ and he just lets that hang in the air between them for a lengthy moment. ]
Still, I can't lay all the blame at your feet. I did say, after all, that I would do my best to see us through this game.
[ us? the two of them? all of the castle? as many of them as he could save?
he sighs, the gesture long and deep. ]
I am only sorry my best was not enough.

One of our victims had control over fire, and two rooms were burning when we investigated yesterday. I think we ought to inspect each other for burns.

tw: fingore for this whole subthread
We're going to have to talk about the fingers. Sorry.
So the fingers that were sliced off of Fitzgerald's hand were all in a row, and cleanly sliced. How difficult would it be to slice off three of a person's fingers at once? Would you need to be exceptionally strong to do that, or just exceptionally skilled with a blade?

Compared to the others, Monika's death seems to have been pretty... quick? Single wound in a fatal place, and her body was made obvious to find.
Also, seems like her ribbon is missing, unless anyone knows something about that.

A THING
A magnifying glass.]
For you all, to use as you need.
[Then she'll clasp her hands in front of her and look over their faces. A small frown pulls at the edge of her lips.]
... I understand that this is an especially difficult trial for all of you, however I have been granted the chance to tell you all something else about your situation.
Those who have departed from your number since the beginning of this game - the Captain, the Diva, the Knight, the King, the Panther, the Angel, the Vice Commander, the Capitalist, the Poet - there is a chance that you may all see them again. Not in death, but in life, should this game proceed well and you accomplish a happy ending. As it sounds, you may not be able to see them until the very end...
But I hope you find that to be a reason for hope.
[And she will nod her head to them, lifts her skirts to curtsy once, and then take her leave.
Now you may speak.]

MIDTRIAL SUMMARY
Alright... Of the things we know so far, it's that it's possible the same dagger was used against Hijikata-san, Monika, and Fitzgerald, and it looks similar to those in the armory. It seems more likely that a katana is what took Fitzgerald's fingers. A sharp blade with a fluid swing is also responsible for cutting through the money that was found.
They don't seem to have been restrained, and there are no signs of poisoning. Their wounds bled very little on their discovery. According to Tiger, everyone died where they were found. Monika and Hijikata-san appear to have been stabbed fatally from the front, while Fitzgerald's seems to have been from behind. Both Hijikata-san and Fitzgerald suffered from multiple wounds; Monika just seems to have the one.
Nico also said that he felt a difference between them - that Hijikata-san's death was more drawn out or prolonged, compared to Monika and Fitzgerald. It also seems as though a Blotter kill may happen at any time between Monday morning and Thursday night, and that even if Tiger is aware of the target, she doesn't necessarily know what time it will happen.
Of our victims, Hijikata-san was Maleficent, with the ability to put people to sleep. Fitzgerald was The Little Match Girl, who could start fires at will. Monika was The Frog Prince, who could breathe under water.
We're also still missing Hijikata-san's katana and Monika's hair ribbon. The katana from the armory isn't his - I don't recognize it at all. Supposedly, we have all of the evidence right now, and the killers are still alive. We also have one fingerprinting kit to use.
[He's also lung-rattling a little by the end of this spiel but it's fine.]

FINGIEPWINT
It seems that Lady Tiger was kind enough to give us another fingerprinting kit. It seems to be similar to last week's so we can only choose one object and twenty fingers. It might be a good idea to discuss which item to use first.
Unless Natsuo was stupid enough to ruin the hilt of the katana as well, I suggest that or the dagger, considering that it was used on all three victims.

...Unfortunately, we are getting close to running out of time. Given that we should have all the evidence, and have yet to put together anything damning...
We may need to begin considering possible suspects based on what we do know. There will need to be a vote, regardless; if we start considering now, it should be easier to reach some sort of conclusion.

cat herding edition WHO YOU VOTING
is going to swing his staff really hard at any one of either the stone clock or the planters for the flowerbeds-- whatever's clearly a hard enough surface to clash off of as a striker. His tuning fork staff makes a loud, clear, ringing, note in the garden despite any lack of obvious thing that would help it resonate more, and he smiles sweetly with promise at everyone once he's drawn their attention away from Natsuo, or whatever else is going on. ]
Now that I have everyone's attention...
We have about an hour left, and this clearly isn't getting anywhere. We all know we have to vote, but given our current lack of coordination I don't trust us to get anything done except perhaps implicate several innocents. We've seen several demonstrations, but others have also brought up concerns about those being easily faked. No matter.
As it is, the most suspicion falls upon those who are capable of handling this type of sword well, as well as those who have either refrained from demonstrating or opted out for other reasons. As it stands, that list of people currently includes Eichi, Hikage, Shirasu, Natsuo, Zelos, Yasusada, and 2b-- as well as both myself and my counterpart by technicality. Souji would be included too, but it is unlikely he is responsible for the death of his own captain.
This is still too long a list, so I think it's time we began discussion-- or simply pointed fingers, to see if anyone reacts.
no subject
[Reyna raises an eyebrow. She's not going to ask why she's off the list, but she is quietly wondering it.]
I believe we can discount Yasusada as well. He wouldn't have killed Okita's captain.

DECISION;
The Tiger uncovers the rose and picks up the petals in her hands. With an elegant flourish, she scatters them onto the ink table where they turn into ink splatters and a message:]
[She clears her throat, and speaks.]
Narrators, you have voted in a single-vote majority for Yamatonokami Yasusada and decreed his fate To Be Continued. Unfortunately...the poor dear was Innocent of any crime committed this week.
Overall, votes were submitted for Sanji, Goro Akechi, Jae-ha, Rapunzel, Natsuo, 2b, Osamu Dazai, Lord El-Melloi II, Kyouka Izumi, Zelos, the Ion no longer bearing the title of Fon Master, Eichi Tenshouin, and Stephanie Brown.
Two of you cast a vote for yourself--Stephanie Brown and Rapunzel shall be facing punishment tomorrow for the transgression.
Tomorrow Yamatonokami Yasusada will face the ending of his story. I'd say apologies are in order.
[A wave of her hand.]
Yamatonokami Yasusada, my lovely darling, if you have any last words, now is your time to speak.
[Yams will have time to speak, but once done, he will find himself surrounded by two suits of armor and escorted away to a night spent in the dungeon.]
Re: DECISION;
No, no, there has to be some mistake, Yasusada is innocent, he didn't do anything.... He can't be... This is all wrong!
