EPILOGUE - WEEK 740 Narrators End ;

Wake up, Narrators. You've done well this past weekend.

As you awaken on this beautiful morning, the doors to the castle are wide open and a festive mood fills the air. Music can be heard from the garden and the ballroom, the dining room's overflowing with tasty treats and beverages, and everything is awash in a soft glow of purples, reds, and golds.

Yet as you exit from your dormitories for the last time, several things will be noticeable to you...

Lining the hallways, several new ornate mirrors flank either wall. Each mirror is engraved with the name of a Narrator and allows each participant of this war to view their world back home. They will be able to see who they wish to see and the current state of affairs in their world. They will also, thanks to their adventures in the Other Space, be able to view the future of their home worlds and what's at stake for them.

No matter where they are in the castle, each Narrator will also find themselves presented with a leatherbound book, a jar of ink and a fresh quill. As they open the book they will see a write-up of their story up until now with several blank pages at the end of the book. As promised, the ink won by the Dragon's ending is enough to allow Narrators to write their own happy endings... even those that directly clash with what they've been able to witness for themselves in the mirrors. Go ahead, write yourself into the universe of another Narrator. The story is yours to tell. Alternatively - if you seek to write a new story for yourself entirely, additional pages will be provided for you to draft up that fresh start.

Meanwhile, the longer you linger around the castle it will become clear that it's much noisier than it should be for only forty people.

Venturing further downstairs you will find several guests waiting for you. Some of these may be people you know from your own worlds, brought here to take you home thanks to the extra magic obtained from the Other Space. Others are past participants from previous rounds of this war, battle stories and triumphs to share. Apparently they'd received an invitation to a celebration to mark the end of it all. Even those who had died from previous rounds and not revived are present. While it had been thought that they'd been lost in the Other Side when there was not enough ink to revive them - it appears that they'd been given new life via your efforts.

The clock in the foyer seems to have stopped. Take all the time you need to say your goodbyes... you are in charge of your own destiny from here on out.

Welcome to your farewell log, everyone! A couple of fun notes for your perusal.

Due to the efforts of characters yesterday in the mini-adventures, characters have unlocked the ability to preview their futures and decide their own destinies. Additionally, they have unlocked the ability for castmates to visit them in the castle, along with characters who have participated in previous rounds of the war! I saw it for myself.

There is no doubt about it.

[Also, they almost killed each other over it, so.]

[ . . . he's quiet for a long, long moment.

He decides immediately that he's not going to tell Soramaru or Chuutarou.

And he rubs the back of his neck. He smiles by default, out of muscle memory, but it wobbles as though it might fall off again at any moment.]

... I really think I have to talk to him then, Sousei.

[And in response... Sousei just sighs, looking away still.]

...Yes. I figured you would.

[Some things never change...and Tenka is one of those things. A constant, even when the world around him is unkind.]

[Tenka nods... because at least - ]

... thanks for knowing that.

[Thanks for understanding him so well. It takes him a second longer, but he raises his head to face him again.]

... I don't mean to make it harder on you either, though.

[When your best friend is still trying to talk to the person who murdered your parents... He knows he's putting Sousei in a difficult place again.

But.

He always does the selfish thing.]

... I don't want any apologies for that.

[Sousei just sighs that out, and finally looks back at Tenka as well.]

Just don't get yourself killed.

[There's been enough death already. Sousei's tired, and that's why he's not going after Shirasu right now. He wouldn't be able to take Tenka's.]

... I don't think he'd do that.

[Shirasu lost.

That's the bottom line - and Tenka doesn't think that he really needs to fear for his life anymore. For some reason, that resonates with him with an almost piercing intensity.

He's mad. He's upset. He's got a lot of emotions -

But...]

I don't really get what's going on - but you two were here together, right? With a bunch of other people, I guess?

[... Sousei just sighs, and shakes his head slowly, a heaviness to his expression.]

It would be better, I think, for you to leave alone what happened here. It is done, it has been resolved, and ti should be left to the past.

That...is my suggestion.

.... is that Sousei for 'mind your own business'.

Because we've seen how well that's gone.

That is Sousei for "you do not truly want to know".

[Sousei says that, but it's said tiredly, because in all honesty? He can't stop Tenka from digging into this if he really tries.]

But if you try, you can find out for yourself. It will not be difficult.

.... but you went through it, right?

[That's where it snags.

Maybe there are some things that Tenka doesn't want to know. Things that he shouldn't go digging in, because it'll mean uncovering painful things. Most of the time, that already won't stop him.

But.]

So I should know. I can't turn a blind eye to something, knowing that you already dealt with it.

... Yes, I suppose I did.

For better or for worse.

[And there was a lot more worse than better, Tenka!!!

Sousei's definitely wearing down, though, especially because he's tired of secrets and also tired in general.]

We're partners.

[Even when they don't talk to each other for the better part of a year.

They're partners.]

And you always go off and do things on your own anyway....

You could at least make it easy and tell me for one - but if you're too emotionally constipated to do that, I guess I can do the digging work for you.

[... Sousei just huffs out a tired sigh, and then:]

We were brought here to murder each other, Tenka. That is why everyone was here. That was the purpose of this place.

[That's why he immediately tried to get Tenka out of here.]

... huh?

[He looks around then - everyone looks so happy though? There are people managing reunions, hugging, saying their farewells....]

What do you mean?

[The distance between the two -

He's trying to imagine it.]

... I mean exactly as I've said. It... worked out. [That's said stiltedly.] In some manner of speaking.

Through some form of magic.

But I would not say that it was without leaving its marks.

[ . . . It worked out.

Tenka looks over the people again and - ]

But there's....

[There's so many kids.

Even if they were child soldiers - that doesn't mean he's any more accepting of it.]

What the hell....?!

I am aware.

[That's just said as a sigh, and he shakes his head.]

There are many people here who should never have been involved in such a thing.

Yeah! Look at all these kids! And everyone else - they seem like good people too....! What the fuck?!

[TENKA IS SO STRAIGHTFORWARD.

AND CURRENTLY UNHAPPY.]

And they brought you in here....?!

[HE TOLD TENKA HE WOULDN'T LIKE IT.]

... Yes. Obviously, I was here as well.

[A huffed out breath.]

That is what happened here. Leave...the rest of it alone. Do not ask anyone here to recount any of the details. I imagine it is still too close for most of them.

Should I not ask you about it then? We can talk about it when we're home and away from here, I guess.

... What would you even want to ask about it?

[What is it Tenka is so desperate to know about such a horrible situation?]

I dunno - I haven't gotten that far.

[He figures he'll stumble on the words by surprise, like he normally does.]

I just don't want you to have to hold onto it alone, I guess.

[Even if it's typical for both of them to try to do exactly that.]

[This is what they always do, what else is new.]

[Like comparatively he is which is hilarious and stupid.]

What I went through could hardly stop me.

But that doesn't mean it was easy...

Well - we can talk about it later! At home. You should stay for dinner - Soramaru's cooking is only getting better, you know?

[Sousei's going home, after all.

What reason would he have to say no to that?]

It has been some time since I have tested Soramaru's skills. It will be good to have a rematch.

[Soramaru is going to get his ass whooped for flinging himself off a cliff.]
