CHAPTER SEVEN ; TRIAL

The Story Continues...
CHAPTER 7 - WEEK 711 Narrators Remain ;

Wakey wakey, naughty murder children. It's a lovely Saturday, after all. Breakfast is served piping hot at its usual time and all of the evidence has been removed from the scenes of yesterday. No matter how you choose to spent your morning though, the clock will begin to chime the moment both hands reach the large, ornate twelve.

Before your eyes materializes a door...but not just any door. Unlike the door leading to the festival, this door sits primly and properly right in front of the foyer. Whether you exit the castle on your own or you feel a friendly, invisible push, you begin to walk under an arc of wisterias. Behind you, the clock continues to chime with every step you take.

By the time the time the clock strikes twelve, you've entered a beautiful garden. In front of you is a long table, 19 seats on each side. Around the garden are several glass cases containing evidence collected yesterday. As noon intensifies on the sun-shaped clock, you'll find Dragon at the head of the table, a glass-covered rose near her right hand.

Tick tock, Narrators. You have nine hours to deliberate.

The garden is strangely silent and there are no snacks today...it seems as though you'll be left to your own devices.

[well this is going to be awkward for two out of three of them!

shirasu pauses after they've entered the door, peering up at the city gates; they know what they have to do, but he has no idea how to do one of those things, so.

luckily the other two are totally in his wheelhouse.]

...not quite what I expected, but I think we can work with this. Shall we?

[ how did magnus end up in this combination.

welp better get on it. magnus squints at the city. ]

I guess so. Where do we start? Should we split up?

[IT'S FINE, THEY'RE FINE. Souji is tired but still doesn't hate anyone in this castle for some godforsaken reason.]

It might be better to stick together for now, I think. But maybe we should start there?

[That group of fancy rich-looking people over near the marketplace, perhaps?]

[they do need to eavesdrop, so shirasu eyes that group, then looks over their surroundings-- he finally gestures to a market stall near where the group is standing.]

Let's pretend to investigate that, and see what we can hear. They shouldn't think much of it so long as we look focused on something besides them.

All right, let's do it. Pretend like we want to purchase some... of whatever those are.

[ magnus has some experience in city thieving but not uh. in a medieval city. ]

Looking focused should be easy.

[He's actually kind of curious about these wares?? SO OVER HE'LL TROT, intending to get a closer look while simultaneously being within hearing range of the group. Hopefully they're discussing something nefarious like CRIME.

Or maybe they're just talking about how they want to buy all the super expensive melons in the market.]

Finding out where they're going and seeing what they have on them will be the most useful things, probably.

[over they go! shirasu strikes up a small conversation with the stall owner as a distraction, so that they don't look silent and suspicious; he's still keeping an ear out as well, but that means his own focus is slightly split.

sounds like these guys are probably just having a nice day out, spending money! since they're rich they probably have some jewelry etc., maybe a swipeable money pouch or two that one of them can spot.]

[ magnus is picking up and squinting at. whatever this stall sells.

but he listens closely, thinking. and. well, what the hell. ]

Be right back, going to check out that one over there.

[ gestures to a stall on the other side of the of the rich people. because he's just going for it, passing by and aiming to grab a money pouch on a heavyset fellow. why not, this can't go horribly wrong at all, maybe.

and if it doesn't work then hey, it can be a distraction for the other two to do something! win-win! ]

[GO MAGNUS GO, a true hero among heroes...!

Said heavyset fellow seems to notice something amiss here, perhaps - but right as he looks like he might be turning Magnus' way, Souji suddenly springs over from where he's at. Wow it's probably a good thing he was sick all game, he's a literal speed menace otherwise.]

--Excuse me! I couldn't help but notice the fine fabric that jacket is made from. Did you get it here?

[Just schmoozing a whole group IT'S FINE.]

[bless both magnus and souji. maybe magnus wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't tried to, you know, target him for death.

the man eyes souji for a moment, but seems to accept the question for what it is, nodding a moment later and gesturing toward another part of the market as he points out where to find a particular tailor.]

Truly? And to think we nearly didn't go that direction... thank you for your help. It's so difficult to find anyone who does such good work.

[it seems to work well enough to convince most of the group that they're fine! shirasu gestures for magnus to go ahead of the two of them, though his gaze lingers on one man who still seems a bit suspicious of them before he follows.]

[ with the pouch swiped and pocketed, magnus just heads on. thanks, souji? you're smarter than him.

he'll go to the stall he gestured to, pause long enough to inspect whatever the hell this one sells as if he cares.

once magnus's mostly sure it's clear-- he doesn't dare look back to see if it isn't, because that'd be suspicious-- he'll head onward to wait for the other two. ]

Ah, yes, thank you for your time.

[A little, polite nod! And then he's setting off after Shirasu, over toward Magnus. ONE THING DONE... Good work team. Once they're out of earshot.]

Well, that wasn't so bad. So now we need to...find a spinning wheel and also someone following us?

[WHY WOULD ANYONE SHADOW THEM.]

The second one shouldn't be a problem. I don't think one of those men fully believed us.

[he's good at spotting that sort of thing, considering... the way he is.]

Don't look behind us or you'll tip him off-- but we should start considering an escape route before they realize anything is missing.

[ someone grab the key if it. magically pops out or whatever. ]

Oh, great. If we need to we can split off in different directions and lose them that way? Circle around and re-group after we lose them?

[Yeah where even does the key come from... IT'S IN MAGNUS' POCKET NOW there you go Magnus.

Anyway he's less miffed that they didn't get away cleanly and more pleased they won't have to somehow bait a person into following them. GOOD WORK.]

If that works for the two of you, then I'd be fine with it. We could meet back up where we started, then?

That would likely be the easiest. He did point out a tailor, but they may expect us to go there... on the other hand, that may have the last thing we need.

[a pause while he considers, and-]

Shall we regroup where we started and then head that way together, to ensure we don't get lost or ambushed?

[ yay! pockets!

at least they don't have some kind of creepy stalker instead? ]

All right. We run, lose him, meet back up, go to the tailor. On the count of three. One, two...

--Maybe it would be better to walk, rather than run.

[JUST SO THEY'RE LIKE .5% less suspicious, maybe...

But with that said he does indeed just sort of veer off to the right to split up. BYE Y'ALL SEE YOU SOON.]

I'm sure we'll all manage.

[he's like 90% sure he'll be fine because he's pretty good at this kind of thing, so! good luck guys. when magnus' count finishes, shirasu also heads off in a different direction, quickly disappearing into a nearby group of people.]

Three.

[ okay, walking, walking is also fine. he veers off in a third direction, giving them a wave as he does. just. twisting through some alley-ways. which are probably filthy? from? being a medieval city? who would want to follow him through this. ]

[HOPEFULLY NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE. Souji thinks he might hear some footsteps uncomfortably close in the meantime, but he's also able to dodge and weave pretty well... NO GETTING CAUGHT TODAY.]

[good job souji... shirasu doesn't take too long to return to their starting point after his own dodge-and-weave adventure, though when they show up he doesn't seem to be there.

that's because he's casually hopping down from a nearby rooftop when the two of them have both arrived.]

I didn't see anyone following you, so I believe we're fine so long as we keep an eye out.

[what else is ninja bullshit good for, okay.]

[ reaching the starting point, he looks at shirasu.

you dramatic asshole. goddamn ninja. ]

Alright. Tailor's? And do either of you know how to spin on a wheel?

[ sleeping beauty he may be but how tf do spindles and shit work ]

[Why must Shirasu be This Way...

Souji's used to dealing with ninjas though considering his doctor back home is also a ninja, so he doesn't bat a lash as Shirasu just hops on down.]

That's good, at least. [A nod! Also Shirasu can get the key for that one in his pocket THERE YOU GO. ONE OBJECTIVE LEFT.

In the meantime, he'll turn and start leading the way to the tailor!]

...Well, no, but we don't actually have to make anything, right?

It can't be that difficult, can it...? If nothing else, perhaps we can ask to be shown.

[he's following souji's lead, keeping an eye out for any of the men they've already run into.]

I don't know anything about them to begin with, though.
