The Story Continues... CHAPTER 5 - WEEK 523 Narrators Remain ; Wakey wakey, naughty murder children. It's a lovely Saturday, after all. Breakfast is served piping hot at its usual time and all of the evidence has been removed from the scenes of yesterday. No matter how you choose to spent your morning though, the clock will begin to chime the moment both hands reach the large, ornate twelve. Before your eyes materializes a door...but not just any door. Unlike the door leading to the festival, this door sits primly and properly right in front of the foyer. Whether you exit the castle on your own or you feel a friendly, invisible push, you begin to walk under an arc of wisterias. Behind you, the clock continues to chime with every step you take. By the time the time the clock strikes twelve, you've entered a beautiful garden. In front of you is a long table, 19 seats on each side. Around the garden are several glass cases containing evidence collected yesterday. As noon intensifies on the sun-shaped clock, you'll find Dragon at the head of the table, a glass-covered rose near her right hand. Tick tock, Narrators. You have nine hours to deliberate. [ ... Welp, now that we've established that Reyna is the missing body and promptly awkwardly hated that for a while, and also since Varian has taken himself off body duty because if he looks at jae-ha he will literally die, Varian has a Thing! And so he is gonna clear his throat. ]

Alright... Uh, everyone. I wanted to share this now so it won't derail us later? For the past couple of weeks, I've been in contact with a Historian. After I learned about Beast writing to Ion in the last trial, I advised them to try to write to Beauty and the Beast... They've asked me to share the letter they received on their behalf since they can't talk about their role publicly, but they feel like this info should be shared with everyone here. Now, I've worked alongside them to decrypt as much of it as I could, and that's the version I've got with me today.

[ that said, he's taking out said letter and showing it off for all to see. It's a transcript in his own handwriting. He'll leave it out for anyone to peruse at any time! ]

Sooo yeah. Um. That's pretty much it.

So... this letter is saying that we've been here before.

I think that might be Historian specific? In that they were part of the last war alongside Beast and Beauty and that's why they know more stuff. Theoretically. The Historian I know had visions related to that.

... Makes sense. It's part of their name, after all—history.

So this means there's five historians total?

[well, that sure is something, isn't it. shirasu takes a few minutes to look it over, one brow raised-- busy trying to commit all of that to memory while he can.]

Some of this is-- certainly unexpected... but thank you for your efforts in decrypting it. -and for doing this early.

[ ion has many regrets about bringing things up the way he did, unfortunately, even if rapunzel tried to cheer him up about it before. the uh. w3 execution ]

[ tbf we got way more distracted at natsuo so varian just shrugs at ion. no blame there buddy ]

[ and natsuo was distracted by knowledge of people being on the other side at all so, kind of still his fault??? here we are ]

It says "the five of you". Does that mean that there are five Historians walking among us?

[ he closes his eyes, and tries to remember the list of titles ]

We're coming awfully close to eliminating the Villains faction. In other words, we're about to do exactly what they're warning us not to do. Does anyone know which faction the deceased belonged to?

I've had it confirmed that there were five total Historians.

[ ... were? ]

Sousei was a villain. He, um. According to the Historian I've been speaking to, he was also one of them.

I see.

[ waver puts a hand to his chin, thinking about it ]

Could that be a reason for why he was killed? Not everyone had access to this information before today. They could have thought that it was necessary to bring the Historians down in order to bring forth a good ending.

... Reception towards the Historians did seem kind of frosty when the Crafters revealed them a few weeks ago.

[alchemenace]

It's possible? We won't know for sure unless we figure out his killer. He and--[ breathes in. exhales. let's start that again. ] ...and Jae-ha were both partners. I don't believe it's a coincidence that they were both taken out.

[axilium]

... Yeah. Jae-ha was a pretty well-liked guy, though, so...

... There are at most five, I think.

We can't account for if we've lost any, either in the past weeks or now, but... the Lady Tiger told me, before, that we would know if we lost any of the roles not tied to our titles. That we would be informed.

But only if they would no longer have any effect on the game.

[axilium]

In other words, all Historians would have to be dead for the Crafters to reveal it.

... Not that it matters, since according to Varian, Sousei was one of them.

[fonlines]

[ That makes sense, but Ion looks troubled as he thinks about something. That something being: ]

The dead can write to us. Not without difficulty, but...

It is either that they would all have to be dead, or perhaps... they would never reveal it to us at all even if they were lost, if what the Historians possessed was information.

[ So. Thanks for the non-answer, Tiger. ]

If it's information and it'll help us, you don't think they'll share?

[ what the fuck. Hikage seems to become increasingly agitated as he reads this. ]

The Historians have been here before?

[ it better only be them. if he's lost more memories - no, if his memories have been tampered with, if he's been dragged back and forth across the border of life and death over and over - well... ]

They were present at the same time as Beauty and the Beast. That's why they know more? They already possessed the knowledge.
