CHAPTER 5 - WEEK 5??? Narrators Remain ;

The clock begins to chime, and on the first note, curfew lifts. Your doors swing open, whether you are ready or not.

Leaving your room is a blur. The person you fell asleep beside — are they still there? Have they vanished? Were they ever there at all? You can't seem to recall clearly. What you are most aware of is the pervading sense of wrongness in the air, and how you can't hear anything but the chime of the clock. Even the sounds of your own voice and your own footsteps do not reach your ears.

By the time the time the clock strikes nine, you know one thing to be true: blood has been spilt.

Search the castle carefully — you wouldn't want to miss a single important detail, would you...?

Welcome to this week's investigation post!

This time, the mods will be providing top-levels for you to search. Please note the Locations page for your reference. Evidence — or lack thereof — will be noted in these threads. We ask that group threads consist of no more than 2-3 characters.

After the discovery of the body (or bodies) and any pertinent evidence, an IC announcement concluding the investigation will go up. You are then free to make your own toplevels on this post for any threads you would like to have between the end of the investigation and the start of the trial.

[ everyone else is milling around, looking sad. Hikage, however, mostly looks frustrated. He'll do his best to get everyone's attention by shouting in a loud voice. ]

Oi! Listen up! One more of us is still dead - that means one of us is missing a partner. All of you, go find your partners and confirm they're here.

[ it's not the trial yet, but this is Important, and he can't believe they missed a goddamn body.

also, get over here, steph, or he'll get over to you. ]

Evan and I are fine.

[Trust him, Dazai checked first thing.]

[ looks for veronica. ]

[she choked a corpse to get its faction but hi she's fine.]

[ she's here, buddy.

she's just staring at the cases that hold sousei and jae-ha, but she's here. ]

[ i mean he knew she was here but it's the principle of the thing. His stiff expression does loosen just slightly when he catches her looking at the cases as he approaches. ]

... Stephanie. Are you okay?

[ look, he's getting better at this. ]

I'm just tired.

[ everything about this is tiring. ]

[ That is fair. The only reason he isn't tired is because he's used to seeing this - even before he got here.

But she's not like him; she walks in the light. So he regards her quietly for a moment before reaching out to her and gently resting a hand on her shoulder. There's nothing he can do to make it okay. He's done telling lies to her, at least for the time being. All he can offer her is his support. ]

[ she looks down at his hand for a moment before shifting her gaze to his face. stephanie offers him a smile; it's small and it's gone after a few seconds, but it's something. ]

We're still here.

[ she hasn't died yet, against all odds; she can still do something if she wants to change this. He doesn't plan on dying, either, if only so that he doesn't drag her down with him in vain. ]

There's a way to end this. I'm sure.

Cardia and I are still here.

[She won't say Cardia is fine, because that's obviously not true.]

Ion and I are both here.

[Why will no one kill the sicklies.]

[belph already knows shirasu is fine unless he was just a goddamn hallucination the entire time, so he's staying where he is and not bothering to speak, because he is absolutely not happy right now.

so yeah, shirasu will have to speak up for them.]

[ Belph, at least, gets a softer look from Hikage, rather than the cold stoicism he's showing everyone else in their time of grieving. He's selfish; he's not terribly familiar with Belph's relationships outside of the one he has with Hikage. But he is terribly familiar with suffering over the loss of someone you care about. ]

... You can make them pay.

[ he won't say it's going to be okay - but he will say that. ]

[... well, it's the sort of thing he'd expect hikage to say, he supposes.]

I don't know if I'm really the revenge type.

[ he's trying his best. ]

It's what you have to do.

[ in a place like this, at least. ]

... [ another pause, as if he's not sure if it's okay to say this. ] I'm with you.

[okay, that gets a look of surprise from belph. a moment passes, before he smiles wryly.]

How much did it kill you to say that?

[... he doesn't quite know how to handle that kind of sentiment, but it's. probably appreciated.]

[ Hikage doesn't balk here, for once, even if he might usually otherwise. ]

[ Hikage raises an eyebrow, but doesn't comment. Akechi is the luckiest person in this game, honestly. ]

No. I was just thinking that both of you are lucky.

[ he doesn't care what happens to Akechi, personally. maybe everyone else is the same. ]

Or maybe you're very clever. Who knows.

I like to think it's a bit of both. ♪

We're both fine, as you've seen.

[but that's, like, all shirasu is here for. one, they probably got pretty soaked out there--

and two, he is bailing before he fails at not looking a little pleased at sousei's body.]

[A tiny bit later, after being found resting and being told about the whole Missing Body situation, Ion comes shuffling in on his staff.]

I'm here, as well...I'm so sorry for any worry that my earlier absence caused.

[He's really too tired to find out about how badly Natsuo got owned by swans today, fml.]
