PROLOGUE - WEEK 0??? Narrators Remain ;

The clock begins to chime, and on the first note, curfew lifts. Your doors swing open, whether you are ready or not.

Leaving your room is a blur. The person you fell asleep beside — are they still there? Have they vanished? Were they ever there at all? You can't seem to recall clearly. What you are most aware of is the pervading sense of wrongness in the air, and how you can't hear anything but the chime of the clock. Even the sounds of your own voice and your own footsteps do not reach your ears.

By the time the time the clock strikes nine, you know one thing to be true: blood has been spilt.

Search the castle carefully — you wouldn't want to miss a single important detail, would you...?

Welcome to your first investigation post!

This time, as it is tutorial week, we will be posting toplevels for searchable locations; moving forward, you will post your own toplevels for locations you wish to searh. Evidence — or lack thereof — will be noted in these threads. We ask that group threads consist of no more than 3-4 characters.

After the discovery of the body (or bodies) and any pertinent evidence, an IC announcement concluding the investigation will go up. You are then free to make your own toplevels on this post for any threads you would like to have between the end of the investigation and the start of the trial.

[Aside from the missing knives and the body, it looks like the kitchen's been completely untouched. Nothing else is amiss.

But, as for the body, they'll notice it right away as ya green dragon boi, Jae-Ha.]

[ Completely silent, Monika will hesitate for a moment before stepping forward.

Soon she joins Sanji, kneeling at his side.

Ashen, she'll reach out to touch Jae-ha's face. What kind of state is he in? ]

[He doesn't look surprise (but does he ever, really), but Sousei's hands clench into fists as he processes just who it is who's lying here. Monika and Sanji are both close to Jae-ha, so he remains standing behind them, alert and eyes fixed on Jae-ha.

... What a fucker.]

[They can all take a deep breath. It's much clearer once they reach him that Jae-ha is still very much alive. He's just sleeping! Apparently deeply. Monika will see as she touches his face that his eyes are heavy, tired, and baggy.]

[ Monika, on the other hand, simply sits back on her heels and dissolves into tears. The emotional whiplash just overwhelms her defenses and she can't hold them back.

So hopefully Jae-ha enjoys being thoroughly manhandled because after Sanji shakes him Monika will throw her arms around this stranger,

which is helpful. ]

[Once Jae-Ha is awake, Sanji is up and standing, shoulders bunched and ready to storm off to check the rest of the kitchen, though he'll throw a request over his shoulder]

Monika-chan, can you explain shit to him? I'm gonna see if there's anything out of place here.

[ JUST ... SOBS, ONCE, WHEN JAE-HA STARTS HOLDING HER? why is any of this happening.

Sanji's request helps ground her, and she'll sit up, wiping at her face. ]

Sorry... [ She clears her throat. ] We all woke up to total silence, and the clock chiming... when we came to investigate, you were just here, unconscious on the floor. We ... we thought you were dead!

[Hm. Well.

This part of the manor seems happily safe, so he's going to nod briefly to... possibly no one if Monika and Jae-ha are focused on each other which is pretty fair (thanks Sousei), before he turns on his heel to go.

There's still a lot of rooms to check out and everything seems mostly put together here, and he trusts Sanji will look after Monika while he's exploring the kitchen. He's just not the sort to hang around once he's seen the situation for himself.

[Hey, don't go too far Sousei. There's a suit of armor blocking your pathway out of the kitchen. It begins to breakdance, then abruptly stops and points at you and each of the others, waiting for a challenge.]

and it luckily cuts off whatever dumb suave thing jae-ha was going to shamelessly say in the middle of an investigation, and he'll carefully move so that he's in front of monika now

and squints at the suit of armor]

... is it trying to communicate. Sanji, what is it trying to tell us. Sousei, can you tell?

Why the fuck would I know what it's trying to say?!

[Sanji speaks pervert not breakdance.]

[ Monika doesn't try to stop Jae-ha from acting adorable and manly and protecting her and all, but really her attention is on the suit of armor. Her eyes are a little wide, and though her expression doesn't really change all that much,

if looks could kill,

that armor would spontaneously evaporate.

slowly: ]

Is this some kind of joke?

[What the fuck. Sousei stares flatly at the suit of armor, and then:]

[He's...going to try to shove past it. It's terrible. He'll use his sheathed sword next, don't do this, suit of armor, this can only be terrible.]

[jae-ha glances back to monika briefly

and blinks in confusion because where did the crying girl go

jae-ha will helpfully comment:]

I always knew I liked you for your sense of brute force. ♥

[EARN YOUR DAMN KEEP, FOOL]

[Why are all of you like this. You don't know it's life. You don't know the quest that it's set out to achieve. Why can't you just respect it and its dance moves? It looks incredibly put out, judging by the slump to its shoulders. It raises both of its hands in a come on, seriously? gesture.]

We're kinda tired, thought we found a dead body -- [FUCK YOU, JAE-HA] -- noooot really in the mood for your shitty moves.

[ Oh, don't get her wrong. There are still tear trails on her face, which she wipes away with the back of her hand. She's quiet for a moment, pulling a hairband off her wrist and using it to tie up her long, long hair. It seems the white ribbon she usually wears is a separate piece.

There's a very tense quality to the air around her, as if it might catch fire just to get away.

Moving slowly, she steps through the kitchen, stopping only to locate, and pick up, a cast-iron skillet.

Her smile is nothing but sweet, which is what frankly makes it so frightening. ]

It really was a joke! Well, I think our senses of humor are pretty different, so I don't really get it. So...

[ Monika cants her head. ]

If you don't move, I'll replace your head with this skillet, because I'd really like to leave, and I'm sure the rest of us would, too! So, would you mind getting out of our way?

[Yeah, honestly, as soon as it's obvious the suit of armor's self-esteem has been entirely CRUSHED and that it will need therapy for many years (and thus it won't be stopping them), Sousei goes ahead and shoves right on by to leave.

HE'S GOTTA GO FIND OUT HIS PARTNER IS DEAD.]

[Crushed. :(

Well, it looks at Sanji and nods. It's taking you at your word, and turns around to leave them be, departing with many metallic clangs. Who knows where it's off to now, or who its next challenger may be.

Find it when you want to test your metal.]

... but it looks like the situation is handled and Sousei is wandering off like there's more pressing stuff to do. So fortunately he's going to opt for being responsible before being a floozy for once and just manages a smile.]
