PROLOGUE - WEEK 038 Narrators Remain ;

Did you sleep well?

Light filters into the castle on Monday morning. The birds are chirping pleasantly, the castle warms up with the rising of the sun, and the doors on the second floor creak as they open. Yes, that’s correct, the luxurious dormitories are now open to you all. Play nicely with all your suitemates please. You will find a gilded name plaque outside your room, along with another person's name...? Congratulations on your bed! Singular bed, that is, that you will have to share with your partner.

Inside your room will find the promised book of rules for the war game. Make sure you read it carefully. Your life might very well depend on it, after all. In addition, you’ll find one item from home waiting for you. Does it look familiar?

Should you choose to inspect the back of the door in your dorm common room, you will also find the full list of available titles posted.

When you enter the dining rooms, you’ll also find the new addition of the tapestries. Hopefully it doesn’t share anything too damning or scandalous. Aside from the three Classics of the week that hang in the very front of the dining hall, all of them will line the walls, happily staring down at you as you eat.

It appears as though no new doors to the outside have been generated, so hopefully you don’t go stir crazy. Anyone who finds themselves looking outside the window may notice the landscape subtly shifting. At times there appears to be a town right at the horizon, booming with life, visible in the day and glowing a warm light in the evening. These mirages don’t seem to last for a few more seconds, but the tune of flutes and fiddles may fill the hallways every so often.

Wonder what that’s all about.

[ there's a Lot to go "why" at here, but right now magnus is examining the posting of all the "titles" with his arms crossed. ]

... This just sounds like a really bad mashup of Disney movies.

[ magnus is actually attempting some kind of cooking. like. vague lazy cooking. probably pizza related?

but he's glancing at the knives with a scrunched nose. ]

-- no, I'm not doing that, shut up.

[ that seems to be directed at... no one... okay. uh. ]

[ or whatever! magnus now has what looks like an "F" rune on a leather necklace, which is his unfortunately nerfed talking sword that... only he can hear talk. that's right, magnus will sometimes just be seemingly talking to himself. it's fine this is fine. ]

Disney?

[Ion, naturally, doesn't understand the reference. But he's curious to know about the list, as well.]

Are you familiar with these titles and their origins?

A film company. They've made a lot of animated movies about fairy tales.

[ but does ion know what a movie is. ]

Yeah, they're all from fairy tales or something like that, weirdly specific theme.

Ah, I see!

[Well, he got fairy tales, and that seems like it's what's most important, so...he'll just stick to that point.]

I haven't heard of these, so I'm afraid I'm a bit out of the loop. Do any of them stand out to you in particular?

[ good life choice. ]

Well... It does look like we have like, the hero or whatever from tales that also have a matching villain, which... might not mean anything, or might mean something? Like Red Riding Hood, the Woodsman, and the Big Bad Wolf which are all from the same story. Or they could be totally unrelated.

"A Singular Bear" is the weirdest, I think that's from Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but there's just the one. Wonder if it's Mama, Papa, or Baby bear?

[uh.]

Talking to knives could be considered a form of insanity, you know.

Huh? Oh, he's a sword, actually. Well, normally. He's stuck as a rune right now.

[ he taps his pendant and. that doesn't explain anything, magnus. ]

Yeaaaah, you're not making a whole lot more sense here, buddy.

[ magnus pauses, glancing down at his rune pendant. ]

... Can you not hear him?

[ he...quirks an eyebrow? is This child broken?? ]

In your skills section it did not include "speaking to knives".

[ aren't all the children broken ]

Oh, I'm not. I'm talking to my sword, he's stuck as this pendant. More his skill than mine.

[ Honestly, Natsuo just sort of assumes he's talking to himself. Still signs of crazy, but not as much crazy as talking to the air, or the knives, or something invisible next to him.

He bounds up from behind him, peering over Magnus' shoulder to see what sort of lazy cooking he can mooch off of today. ] What're you making? I can cut stuff if you don't want to!

[ thanks natsuo, you're clearly a good dude. ]

Some kind of... bite-sized pizza. Pizza bites. [ he's just guessing at shit and seeing how it goes. it probably won't go well. ] Uh, you can chop some vegetables maybe?

I can, but you don't put vegetables on pizza?

[ meat lovers all the way... unless he means he wants a salad on the side, which in that case it's also a foreign concept ]

Why not? They're great. Onions, garlic, tomato, peppers, all sorts of stuff. What do you usually have on a pizza, just cheese and meat?

[ eat your veggies man?? ]

As long as it's blended up into the sauce, that's fine! [ He'll eat hidden veggies! Like a goddamn child. ] But on top of the pizza, it's gotta be meat and cheese!

[uhhh]

Doing... what, exactly?

Jack, being a sword, thinks I should take one of those knives. In case of needing to stab someone, I guess.

[ shrugs as if to say "swords, man, what can you do?" ]

Yeah I fuckin agree.

[Sanji don't encourage the crazy, maybe. But either way, he gives the kid a look, then pointedly regards the knives]

The shitty voices in your head telling you to take one?

[ magnus does a double take, like whoa dude. ]

Uh, no? My pendant here [ points to it ] can talk, he's usually a sword so I guess he's into stabbing. No head voices here... unless you're hearing voices?

[That was a serious answer for a non-serious reply and Sanji needs a moment to stare]

... Is that just a thing pendants do and I missed the memo?

[ contrary to everyone else's reaction, 2b casts an understanding look at magnus when he starts talking unprompted. her pod bobs in the air as she calmly responds, ]

I see it's happened to you, too.

[ squints at the pod for a moment which is definitely weirder than a guy talking to an inaudible necklace, yes. ]
