The Story Continues... CHAPTER 5 - WEEK 5??? Narrators Remain ; The clock begins to chime, and on the first note, curfew lifts. Your doors swing open, whether you are ready or not. Leaving your room is a blur. The person you fell asleep beside — are they still there? Have they vanished? Were they ever there at all? You can't seem to recall clearly. What you are most aware of is the pervading sense of wrongness in the air, and how you can't hear anything but the chime of the clock. Even the sounds of your own voice and your own footsteps do not reach your ears. By the time the time the clock strikes nine, you know one thing to be true: blood has been spilt. Search the castle carefully — you wouldn't want to miss a single important detail, would you...? Welcome to this week's investigation post! This time, the mods will be providing top-levels for you to search. Please note the Locations page for your reference. Evidence — or lack thereof — will be noted in these threads. We ask that group threads consist of no more than 2-3 characters. After the discovery of the body (or bodies) and any pertinent evidence, an IC announcement concluding the investigation will go up. You are then free to make your own toplevels on this post for any threads you would like to have between the end of the investigation and the start of the trial. [HELLO, CREEPY CORPSE ROOM.

Veronica is heading here with Evan in tow, already squinting just in case there's anything obviously out of place. Can there please be no extra corpses in this room...]

[selfinserting]

[Evan looks fairly hesitant to be in here at all, but he follows in regardless, trying not to let his gaze hold too long on any of the bodies.]

...Do you see anything?

[themodsgrimm]

[Dunno what to tell you, guys. There's an extra corpse in the room. It's pretty hard to miss.]

[asswipe]

... Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no, no. Fuck, no.

[NANI? THE FUCK.]

You mean, um, besides that? [Said while she gingerly begins to approach the extra corpse. Where is it right now? On the floor, or...?] Please let it be a puppet. Please let it be a puppet. Please, please let it be a puppet.

[selfinserting]

[Evan freezes in place for a moment before he starts to approach it, trying to make out just who it is. He doesn't say anything, moving a hand to his mouth as his heart starts pounding.

Can he make out whose corpse it is?]

[It's...definitely not a puppet. It's easy to make out who the body belongs to, and that it's a dead body, judging by its condition, even without getting close. It's bad, son, daughter.

Jae-ha is dead.]

[asswipe]

[...

Just. Covering her mouth with her hand here, once she realizes that Jae-ha sure is super duper dead.]

He's... Oh, fucking hell. [3 for 3 for Evan, holy shit. She drops down to a crouch next to the body, intent on taking a closer look. How bad are we talking about here?] Evan, you... Do you see anything? Like— Like a weapon, or blood, or... I, I don't know. Oh, god.

[selfinserting]

[Once he realizes who exactly it is, he sucks in a breath, his expression falling immediately.]

No...

[He shakes his head as if to clear it, even if he can still feel his heart pounding, and takes a step closer. He kneels down next to Veronica and the body, looking it over, first for injuries or other easily noticeable things about the state of the corpse.]

[The most immediately notable thing about the corpse is that it missing a leg. It looks like his leg was completely ripped off from the shin downward. There's also a large stab wound on his neck.]

[asswipe]

Ah.

[AH.]

I, I'm going to puke. [THIS IS FINE. THIS IS FINE!!] Holy shit...

[Thankfully, she does not puke. But also, she totally has to swallow down some bile as she takes a closer look at the stab wound, pointedly avoiding looking at the leg. How deep a stab wound are we talking about here? Is there any ink around it, or is Jae-ha weirdly clean despite getting shanked and missing a leggy?]

[Meanwhile, as soon as Evan sees the stab wound, and especially once he registers his missing leg... He stands up, taking a few steps away from the body, and taking in a shaky breath.

For a moment, he looks around the room to see if there's anything else immediately noticeable so he doesn't have to focus on... all that. Apart from the corpse, is there anything else clearly going on in here?]

[The rest of the room is pristine. Oddly pristine, for someone missing a leg. Veronica's hit the nail on the head: the state of the body is weirdly clean, as well, unless you count that his clothes are wet and muddy. The stab wound is definitely deep enough to have been fatal, no doubt about it.

Evan might notice, if nothing else, that Jae-ha's body is positioned beside Gi-gan's case.]

[asswipe]

[What the heckie. Did he get killed by the same person who made all those bloodless kills last week?

Noticing how dirty he is, though, she takes a deep breath and starts checking his clothes and remaining limbs out. Does it look like he might have walked somewhere muddy, judging by his uno shoe, or does it look like he was dragged through the mud? Alternative: Both?? She's checking his back as well, to be thorough, and checking his clothes just in case there's something in there besides. You know. A corpse.]

... Evan, do you see any mud or puddles in the room?

[selfinserting]

[He notices the placement of the body after a few moments of glancing around, and it feels like his heart is in free fall, dropping to his stomach. That's... That isn't fair, he thinks, swallowing thickly.]

...I'll check.

[Without another word, he goes to carefully make his way between the other glass cases in the room, looking down at the ground as he does. Does he see any mud or puddles? Or, you know, anything else he might come across while staring intently at the floor.]

[There aren't any muddy prints or markings anywhere, but there's definitely mud on Jae-ha's (remaining) shoe, indicating he'd certainly been in the mud, though there isn't anything to indicate dragging.]

[asswipe]

[... Well. This is pleasant.

After verifying that Evan is still checking out the floor, Veronica is going to quickly put her hands around Jae-ha's neck and carefully give it a squeeze. Will any ink come out if she does?]

[selfinserting]

[Once he's checked out the ground for anything else strange, he's going to examine the glass cases themselves now, checking for any marks or damage they might have sustained.]

[themodsgrimm]

[Once again, Evan's search comes up empty: none of the cases seem to have been tampered with in any way. As Veronica squeezes Jae-ha's neck, crimson ink seeps out of the wound.]

[asswipe]

[As soon as she sees the red ink:]

Oh, thank god.

[Veronica...............

Anyway, she's checking to see if he has any items or whatever on him. If not, she'll move away from the body.]

Did you find anything, Evan?

[selfinserting]

[As soon as he hears her say that, he looks over, and while he sees the crimson ink and understands what she's talking about... There's a note of disappointment in his voice regardless.]

...This, this isn't something to be relieved about.

[After a small pause.]

No, I haven't. Do, do you want me to check anywhere else?

[themodsgrimm]

[I'm sure somewhere, Jae-ha is frowning at you, Veronica. But it looks like he's not carrying anything.]

[asswipe]

[If Jae-ha didn't want this then maybe he shouldn't have died!! Gosh!!!!

Anyway, she's making a face when Evan reprimands her but not. Defending herself or anything.]

... It's only us and the dead bodies here, right? I don't think there's anything else to check, unless you noticed anything off about the glass cases. [Like the names on the cases or if someone swapped a body or something?? Probably not, though.]

[selfinserting]

...I didn't see anything wrong with the cases.

[But since I am Paranoid as ever, he's going around to each of them to make sure the names match whoever's inside, etc.]

[Everyone is present and accounted for! Wouldn't that be really funny though if someone had gotten switched around? Lmao...but yeah, no funny business.]

Anyway — she helps Evan check the glass cases. Once they confirm there's nothing wrong with them, though:]

... I didn't see anything wrong with them, either. [...] I hate that I have to say this, but I really hope someone found an obvious murder weapon with fingerprints in another room.
