CHAPTER 3 ; INVESTIGATION
CHAPTER 3 - WEEK 3 The clock begins to chime, and on the first note, curfew lifts. Your doors swing open, whether you are ready or not. Leaving your room is a blur. The person you fell asleep beside — are they still there? Have they vanished? Were they ever there at all? You can't seem to recall clearly. What you are most aware of is the pervading sense of wrongness in the air, and how you can't hear anything but the chime of the clock. Even the sounds of your own voice and your own footsteps do not reach your ears. By the time the time the clock strikes nine, you know one thing to be true: blood has been spilt. Search the castle carefully — you wouldn't want to miss a single important detail, would you...? ![]() Welcome to this week's investigation post! This time, the mods will be providing top-levels for you to search. Please note the Locations page for your reference. Evidence — or lack thereof — will be noted in these threads. We ask that group threads consist of no more than 2-3 characters. After the discovery of the body (or bodies) and any pertinent evidence, an IC announcement concluding the investigation will go up. You are then free to make your own toplevels on this post for any threads you would like to have between the end of the investigation and the start of the trial. If you have any questions, please ask on our Discord server or ping us on plurk. Please direct pings to Britt ( Instructions on this week's investigation can be found in a pin in the General chat!

glances at monika's corpse
glances at the knife
...
what is there to say, really? "i'm sorry" would just ring hollow, she thinks.]
no subject
A gift from earlier in the week.
[ His hand stops, and he wiggles the knife between his fingers ]
Not to get too caught up in details, but I said some things to her that were hardly nice. She gave this to me to prove a point— wasn't even mad about any of what I said, just smiled and told me I was wrong.
no subject
...that was a kind way of handling it.
[Kinder than Zelos is probably used to, she thinks.]
no subject
Honestly? I thought she was pretty stupid a lot of the time.
[ Anyway, flipping the knife in the air once again. ]
But yeah, she was kind on top of that. Funny too, and weirdly patient no matter how you talked to her.
no subject
It sounds like you knew her pretty well.
[Which makes the loss all the more difficult.]
no subject
Nope, total stranger.
[ in the context of their past conversations, he knows she'll get more out of those words than he wants her to. ]
C'mon—
[ He starts walking before she responds. ]
I wanna' talk for a second.
no subject
[she follows him! away they go]
no subject
My condolences. Were you close to her?
no subject
Zelos, unfortunately, is Zelos. ]
We slept together a few times.
[ it's said flatly.
He continues to play with the butterknife in his hand. ]
Do you count that as close?
no subject
[ he glances at zelos, and then at monika ]
Did she give you that?
no subject
[ he slips the knife back into his pocket, feeling strange with it out now that someone’s actually asked about it ]
She wanted to prove she could take control of her life, so she told me to keep it— said she wouldn’t need it anymore.
no subject
[ it must have had something to do with her change in attire. ]
You won her trust. It must have been difficult for her to do that.
no subject
slowly his gaze drifts just above Waver's head and he shrugs. ]
Dunno, maybe she was just starved for affection? Not sure how much you can trust anyone you've only known for a few weeks. But she was a good listener and she had a pretty laugh, those are the only things I know for sure.

no subject
he glances at her, not ceasing in his knife action. ]
Can I help you? Actually— don’t answer that, since I’m not really in the mood to offer up my generosity anyway.
no subject
What did she mean to you?
no subject
Sorry, I'm a little slow on the uptake at the moment.. why exactly do I owe you that information?
no subject
Answer the question.
no subject
[ His eyes are just a little sharp. ]
If I say I cared, you'll just say I'm lying. If I say I didn't care, you'll say I killed her.
no subject
She trusted you.
no subject
[ It's not a question. ]

[ ... ]
Honestly, what the hell do you want from me, honey? I've got a real bad migraine coming on and looking at you is only making it worse— so I'd really appreciate it if you'd buzz off.
no subject
...
she tears her eyes away from scornfully staring at him to fix her eyes on monika's corpse instead. ]
She was my partner. There's no guarantee that I'll survive this weekend without her. I can spend however long I want here.
