Long ago I participated in something vaguely similar. A battle royale with other mages for a stupid wish like honor.

I found out how that desire ended up consuming the other participants whole. They all ended up dying, one way or another, and all for naught. And I realized... that I did not need a wish granting device to get the honor I so much coveted.
